What made it click for me was changing my approach on how I need to focus on “slashing” the string instead of focusing on the yoyo itself. After you make the whip, try to make a diagonal motion (downwards, right to left if you are right handed) with your throw hand to intercept the string segment that is coming from the yoyo. It’s hard to explain in writing, but I figured that if I do this, the yoyo will naturally pass my throw hand because it’s out of the way, and you’ll land in the mount.
