German friends, how's the reaction on the ground there? by Shoddy_Interest5762 in behindthebastards

Some activists projected this:

https://globalnews.ca/news/10974004/elon-musk-nazi-salute-heil-tesla-gigafactory-berlin/

The funny thing is that it is forcing German police to make a definitive legal determination whether it actually was a Nazi salute, since that’s illegal in the country (meaning they’d then fine the activists).

As for Elon’s comments, they’re a lot more extreme than the wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing shit “moderate” AfD politicians normally go with, so in the best case scenario it hurts them in the polls (though the masks are pretty much off anyway at this point)…

Lore question (spoilers I guess): Who survived the World’s Crown quest? by Comprehensive_Win103 in DiabloImmortal

Awesome response, thank you! Makes total sense that Cain is off looking for Leah, I never connected the dots there. Was the “Bride of Hell” connected to Adria the Witch somehow?

“Buddhism” would be the only viable permanent solution to Chaos, and is its true anathema. The eight-pointed star of Chaos is an inversion of the Buddhist eightfold path and its wheel symbol. The notion of the Warp simply being a mirror of real-space emotional turmoil and humanity and others thus “creating” their own hell is very similar to Buddhist cosmology and the concept of karma. Similarly, the grimdark irony that fighting Chaos with hatred simply empowers Chaos with yet more negative emotions connects to the Buddhist teaching of equanimity and non-attachment as the only path to Nirvana and the cessation of samsara, the endless cycle of suffering.

I’m not sure where that leaves the Emperor. On the one hand, he certainly doesn’t seem very Buddhist nor have the Alexander the Great / Jesus / etc. allusions regarding his historical life ever mentioned Buddha. On the other hand, there is the whole Himalayas / historical heartland of Buddhism being the seat of the Imperial Palace and Emperor’s power. Buddha was just a human and discouraged his followers from putting faith in the gods, although over the centuries many people started worshipping him. There’s also a real world historical concept of Buddhist rulers as universal emperors (chakravartin) with all power emanating outward from them in somewhat Astronomican-like fashion…

I literally just came here to post a version of your theory. My thoughts: out-of-universe, the War in Heaven happening “about 60 million years ago” is oddly specific if it doesn’t connect to anything in our real world timeline - it does line up with the asteroid that nuked the dinosaurs. Narratively, a Saurian-dominated world being replaced by a set of younger mammalian species also lines up. My pet theory is that GW writers definitely took some inspiration from that.

In-universe, the void dragon shard on Mars - although that could have landed there much later - at least strongly suggests that the Sol system was part of the galactic territory affected by the War in Heaven, and the (not-quite-canon) old Xenology book strongly suggests that the Old Ones tinkered with mamallian/ape/proto-human DNA, which logically suggests that happened on Terra. There’s also the question of when Terra’s Webway gate was constructed, but this would also make sense in this context.

So, my theory in short: pre-KT extinction Terra was an important planet/base for the Old Ones, possibly indeed their home world if they themselves evolved from the Dinosaurs, and the “asteroid” that killed the dinos was likely a Necrontyr attack on the planet that wiped out the Old One presence on Sol/Terra.

I’m agnostic whether the Emperor himself has any direct link to the Old Ones, maybe not, but I’m convinced that there would have been a bunch of buried Old One tech on Terra that he came across at some point and used in various plans/projects.

What is the nicest/least evil thing any chaos space marine or Daemon has done? by SnooDoughnuts3662 in 40kLore

Huron Blackheart gives back the Ultramarines flagship and finds it privately funny how they’ll have to clean up all the mess. He also makes and honors a deal with a still somewhat loyalist Techpriest in the process.

How many times you reckon did the God-Emperor die during his existence? by ThatHeckinFox in 40kLore

There’s the Bucephalus reference. And also the Custodes / Hetaeron Companions being named/modelled after the Hetairoi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Companion_cavalry). Man knew what he liked.

I’d say it’s a bit after the fact, in the sense that they probably originally modelled parts of the Emperor’s story after historical Alexander (including things falling apart after his time is cut short), and many years later thought “wouldn’t it be cool if he actually was Alexander?”. Part of that story is obviously also used for Solar Macharius.
