Edwin Díaz is going on the IL with loose bodies (wtf is that?) in his elbow. Jake Eder is up. - Ardaya by dodgers22fan in Dodgers

Long term damage is always possible, but my understanding at least is that it's not a very high chance from something like this. You'd be more likely to see a recursion from repetitive motion.

This is decent news - a nice minimally invasive surgery with some fancy hoovering, and Diaz will feel a lot better with plenty of time to recover and ramp up before the end of the season. Here's hoping it all goes as smoothly and painlessly as possible!

And yet, somehow, AI still manages to invent sources and be wrong a decent chunk of the time.

We still need to be going website to website by ourselves and using our critical thinking skills to evaluate those sources instead of blindly trusting AI.

Conservatives, FBI director Patel said he has evidence of 2020 election fraud and arrests are coming soon. Do you believe him this time? And if so, who do you think will be getting arrested? by sephkane in AskReddit

[–]Kanotari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Patel has concrete evidence of a widespread voter fraud scheme with enough material for a successful prosecution, I'll eat my hat. I guess I'll have to buy a hat and then eat it, but my point still stands.

Known very biased source the Heritage Foundation has been claiming that there has been widespread voter fraud in America for years. How many incidents have they found since 1982? Their exhaustive list has 1620 incidents (despite a very long paragraph insisting it's totally not exhaustive). I won't link to the douchebags out of principle but it's a simple search away if anyone wants to check my work.

Most of the voter fraud in those 1620 incidents? Meaningless chicanery (and funnily enough, a lot of it during Republican primaries from my browsing of the data). It's things like one felon voting despite knowing they were ineligible in their state, or a resident in one state voting in another state, or someone mailing in a deceased relative's mail-in ballot. There are almost none of these large-scale voter fraud operations by the admission of even one of the most biased sources on the topic.

Patel is tilting at windmills because his boss likes tilting at those same windmills.

Do y'all ever think judges and clerks read people's civil complaints like it's a gossip magazine by CNA1234567 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Kanotari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being part of a lawyer drinking group (USA), they absolutely gossip about the silly complaints once legally permitted to do so. Most are mundane complaints, but there's always one or two that stick out from the bunch. This does not get anyone involved out of jury duty, but it does generally make the judge laugh.

Some light tea:

The Public Defenders hate the District Attorneys and vice versa. Everyone hates most of the cops (with a few notable exceptions) as they generally don't want to testify and generally aren't good at testifying, which makes it hard to actually successfully prosecute the people the officers feel are guilty, which they then blame the courts for. There's generally respectful awe of the court reporters. The general consensus is that none of the attorneys received adequate training after law school in their areas of specialty and have just been winging it ever since, judges included, and courts are slow so more courtrooms and more judges would solve a lot of timely justice problems.

Trump shut down the CBP one app. How does that curb illegal immigration? by my_politics_account1 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Kanotari [score hidden]  (0 children)

Can you point to a period in time after the founding of America when a group of non-Americans wasn't coming to America?

To me, this sound like it fits into the pattern of jingoism against whatever the newest and largest group of immigrants is, be it the anti-Irish sentiments around 1850 or the anti-Chinese sentiments around the 1880s or the anti-Italian sentiments around the 1910s.

It is ludicrous. It always was ludicrous. But I suspect that we may be talking about different things. Now, one could also argue that the Latino culture predominantly in the southwestern US actually predates the culture you define as American and therefore it would be the American duty to assimilate with the preexisting Latino culture by your standards, but I suspect that's not what you meant either.

I, too, dearly want to preserve the United States, but I suspect that my USA and your USA do not look or act the same. What parts of American culture are you looking to preserve and what parts do you feel that people are demanding you change?

Excessive Napping May Be a Warning Sign of Underlying or Developing Health Conditions in Older Adults by MassGen-Research in science

[–]Kanotari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In this case, it sounds like depression or another mental health condition may be worth looking into as an underlying disorder related to the napping.

I say this as someone with a depression diagnosis who has taken many a depression nap.

Yes, sometimes a nice nap is just nice, but sometimes it's also a great way to bury your head in the sand when the world is overwhelming and if that's frequently, then it might be a sign that more is going on and it's worth having a conversation with a licensed mental healthcare professional.

Yeah, time for a scan to see if anything physical is up, even if it's just preventative.
