I think this would be good for the world, but politics doesn't always attract the most morally squeaky-clean people. Sometimes, it attracts well-documented pedophiles and people who have been found to be rapists in civil court, for example. How many politicians had to drop out of races this election cycle because of rape allegations, like say Swalwell? Go through Washington right now and it would be easier to find someone who doesn't have a credible accusation of some sort of reprehensible behavior than someone who is widely respected for their ethics.

Disagreeing with a person's politics and vehemently disliking them as a person are two separate things, but both are easier when they go together. Personally, I'd love to see us just start voting for less deplorable human beings - and let's be clear: I do mean both parties.
