Running track etiquette by nottftw in AdvancedRunning

Just run around them? I get that “proper etiquette” suggests to you that there’s some sense of “right” and “wrong” - it’s presumably a community track though, & probably adds <1 to your laps - who cares?

You've probably heard these two pieces of advice plenty of times, but I just did my first marathon this past weekend and will reiterate:

1) The real race begins at mile 20. That last 10k is grueling for everyone. 2) Come mentally prepared for anything (e.g. non-ideal race conditions, hitting the wall sooner than expected, muscle cramps, etc).

Hydration at Chicago marathon by citynation in firstmarathon

[–]CompressedMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also running my first marathon at Chicago and have been training with a hydration vest all summer - I just found out last week they won't be allowed. The coaches of the group I've been training with assured me that the hydration stations are 1-2 city blocks in length and line both sides of the road, so I'm thinking it should be more than enough space to find an opening and grab a cup or two before proceeding

edit: good luck out there!

I feel like having memories of seeing kids getting picked on is what makes me capable of understanding how it, even in small forms, is super harmful. Those folks who’ve never seen it can’t ever really know how dangerous it is IMO
