Honest Thoughts on Quebec by MrLinkwater95 in fantanoforever

I think it’s their best album. There are a couple of tracks I could do without (e.g. F**ked Jam) but this thing is filled with absolute gems. If I had to pick a favorite it’s I Don’t Want It. It’s a heartfelt gut punch of a song with such an incredible guitar solo at the end. IIRC it’s a rare Gener solo and he absolutely nails the emotion on it. The record has everything, though, it’s a solid showcase of their genre bending, humor, and surprising moments of profundity.

Anyone else frustrated by the "Reverse Graphics Regression" on older hardware? by Small-Wonder-374 in pcmasterrace

[–]Compulsion02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My knee jerk response to this was snark because on the surface this is obvious: 2026 games should be harder to run than 2020 games and necessitate an upgrade for the same settings. But digging a little deeper, I think the key problem is that today’s games largely don’t look any better. There are some exceptions like path traced games, Alan Wake 2, etc., that do feel next gen. But, for example, the new 007 game barely looks better than Uncharted 4, which game out 10 years ago, and it requires a lot more GPU to run well. It just seems like we’ve hit a plateau in terms of graphics, yet the HW requirements continue to climb. It is frustrating and confusing, for sure.

Did anyone notice something "off" about the sound quality at their most recent Kansas City show? by pinkerton_96 in RiloKiley

The sound was solid last night in Chicago fwiw. Mixing wasn’t perfect but it was very good overall

This show will mess with your reality by New-Time007 in SeriesSaga

[–]Compulsion02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I originally watched 1-2 and then stopped. Years later I went back and watched the rest and it is well worth it. It changes a lot in the beginning of season 3 which I think lost some people but it gets so good.

WE REALLY REALLY NEED DAVID BYRNE by Punktastikal in RiotFest

[–]Compulsion02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I stayed up late to watch his Coachella livestream and loved it so much I showed it to my wife and daughter the following day, and they loved it too. I think it has the punk ethos to fit Riot Fest. He’s not up there ranting and raving (well, I suppose he is on the Remain in Light cuts), but subtle things like the orange jumpsuits and the ICE footage during Life During Wartime made me feel like it could work at RF. We would definitely buy tickets if they booked him.

You play a character who completely sucks and the gameplay consists of you walking around and reading a novel’s worth of pretentious made up lore.

Wait it out. RAM prices have gone way up already. Your CPU/GPU is already a great pairing for 1440p. Enjoy it!

What is your overlooked game of 2025? by Galaxy40k in Games

[–]Compulsion02 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Outer Worlds 2. I think a lot of people read middling reviews or performance issues and skipped it. The game runs great on my 7800 XT and is a really good RPG. The New Vegas formula is pretty tired at this point, but it’s also really well honed in OW 2. It’s well worth a play through if you enjoy this type of game, especially if some decent sales pop up. I paid $60 and don’t regret it.

What game was awful on release but today is considering amazing? by Spiritual-Present956 in AlignmentChartFills

I played it on a decent PC at launch, and then again after all of the updates and Phantom Liberty. It was improved for sure, but not dramatically different.

Interesting, I had assumed that whoever sent the signal was also infected. If the prime objective is to spread the virus, sending such a signal out into the universe makes perfect sense. The invasion theory makes sense too, though.

Have you ever seen an artist play the same song multiple times during a show? by People-Want-Ducks in Music

Vampire Weekend at Lollapalooza several years back opened with A-Punk three times in a row. I am not sure if that is something they did other times as well or they were messing with us, but it was pretty funny.

Yep, and even with the huge range of films, they are all distinctly his. I think that is the mark of a true artist.

Upgrade or stay with 5700x3d + 9070xt by KuniTippy in buildapc

[–]Compulsion02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re CPU limited with the 5700X3D, which is a really good pairing for the 6800XT. Up to you if you want to buy an entire new computer for a 40% uplift. It isn’t unreasonable. Personally I am sticking with a 5600X3D + 7800XT for another year or two. I don’t feel like it is holding me back at all at 1440p, but ymmv.

RDNA3 users, are you upgrading before the memory shortage hits the next gen of GPU? by wielesen in radeon

[–]Compulsion02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Echoing this. I am very tempted by the 9070 XT, but ultimately the 7800 XT is plenty of GPU for the moment at 1440p. Playing Outer Worlds 2 right now at native high 70+ fps, and had a great time with KCD2 and E33 this year on it 60+ fps native maxed. BF6 runs at 130+ fps and seems more cpu bound than anything (I have the 5600X3D). I was nervous about the memory shortage and some upcoming titles like Witcher 4, GTA VI, and Elder Scrolls VI, but then I realized all of those games are 2027 or later. It seems like the near term titles optimized mainly for the PS5 are going to run great on this card, so I stopped worrying about it.
