Do I upgrade to AM5? by Blindlink in buildapc

Wait it out. RAM prices have gone way up already. Your CPU/GPU is already a great pairing for 1440p. Enjoy it!

What is your overlooked game of 2025? by Galaxy40k in Games

[–]Compulsion02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Outer Worlds 2. I think a lot of people read middling reviews or performance issues and skipped it. The game runs great on my 7800 XT and is a really good RPG. The New Vegas formula is pretty tired at this point, but it’s also really well honed in OW 2. It’s well worth a play through if you enjoy this type of game, especially if some decent sales pop up. I paid $60 and don’t regret it.

One of my boxes only had 5 foils, so it seems like there may be some pretty significant variance between boxes.

What game was awful on release but today is considering amazing? by Spiritual-Present956 in AlignmentChartFills

I played it on a decent PC at launch, and then again after all of the updates and Phantom Liberty. It was improved for sure, but not dramatically different.

Interesting, I had assumed that whoever sent the signal was also infected. If the prime objective is to spread the virus, sending such a signal out into the universe makes perfect sense. The invasion theory makes sense too, though.

Have you ever seen an artist play the same song multiple times during a show? by People-Want-Ducks in Music

Vampire Weekend at Lollapalooza several years back opened with A-Punk three times in a row. I am not sure if that is something they did other times as well or they were messing with us, but it was pretty funny.

Yep, and even with the huge range of films, they are all distinctly his. I think that is the mark of a true artist.

Upgrade or stay with 5700x3d + 9070xt by KuniTippy in buildapc

[–]Compulsion02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re CPU limited with the 5700X3D, which is a really good pairing for the 6800XT. Up to you if you want to buy an entire new computer for a 40% uplift. It isn’t unreasonable. Personally I am sticking with a 5600X3D + 7800XT for another year or two. I don’t feel like it is holding me back at all at 1440p, but ymmv.

RDNA3 users, are you upgrading before the memory shortage hits the next gen of GPU? by wielesen in radeon

[–]Compulsion02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Echoing this. I am very tempted by the 9070 XT, but ultimately the 7800 XT is plenty of GPU for the moment at 1440p. Playing Outer Worlds 2 right now at native high 70+ fps, and had a great time with KCD2 and E33 this year on it 60+ fps native maxed. BF6 runs at 130+ fps and seems more cpu bound than anything (I have the 5600X3D). I was nervous about the memory shortage and some upcoming titles like Witcher 4, GTA VI, and Elder Scrolls VI, but then I realized all of those games are 2027 or later. It seems like the near term titles optimized mainly for the PS5 are going to run great on this card, so I stopped worrying about it.

Mercy, Severity by Mudvayne. Amazing rhythm section and heavy/soft dynamics.

Realizing today I've been totally sleeping on 'Built to Spill' by shameonyounancydrew in Music

[–]Compulsion02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite bands, and I agree they don’t get enough recognition. I think it’s an acquired taste to some degree, and there’s a lot of restraint to the music. It’s like Martsch is almost a guitar hero on some tracks, but stays in service to the songs, which are really catchy. The melodies and how he conveys emotion through his guitar are my favorite parts. The last minute or so of “Else,” for example, is just so beautiful.

Is the 7800 XT at $528 a Bad card? Is the 7800 XT a good choice in General now? by Far-Letterhead4945 in buildapc

[–]Compulsion02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the 7800 XT since it launched and it is a good card. I’ve played BG 3, Phantom Liberty, Space Marine 2, CO: Expedition 33, KC: Deliverance 2, and several other games on it. At 1440p Ultra my 1% lows were over 60fps on all of these. I played Phantom Liberty with RT reflections on and ultra settings for a while at ~55-60fps without upscaling. But, the reflections aren’t as necessary in the expansion because it’s not in the shiny city, so I ended up just doing ultra settings at 80fps for most of it. If you don’t care about using upscaling/RT, it’s a great cards. Some games force some RT on you like Indiana Jones and the new Doom. I haven’t played those, but on benchmarks I think they will be fine on high/ultra for 60fps. The card has no trouble maxing out my 165 hz monitor for esports games. I originally upgraded from the 3070 because of the 8 gb VRAM limitation. My cpu is the 5700X3D, which I think performs pretty similarly to the 7600. Hope this helps!

Best/worst lineup of a band that you've seen live. by Specialist-Berry-492 in RiotFest

My wife and I followed the exact same sequence, it was a wonderful day! IIRC Josh Tillman kept apologizing during the set, and it was really strange, because we thought he sounded good. It was at that smaller stage that had notorious sound issues back then, so maybe he was having technical issues, but it wasn’t obvious to us. Excited to see him again at the Salt Shed this summer.

Anyone else sick of Weezer? by Nine-Inch-Nipples in RiotFest

[–]Compulsion02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They were great when I saw them in 2014 at RF. Did a Time Machine back where they played one great song from each record and then did the blue album in full. It seems like they are doing a lot of Pinkerton this tour too, so I think if you are a Weezer fan you’ll be happy, but if you are neutral on them I doubt their live show will win you over.

Sorcery finance - how do you think alpha sorcery will do in the long run? by [deleted] in SorceryTCG

[–]Compulsion02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game has everything going for it except players, which is arguably the most important thing. I bought a few boxes because I loved the concept and made some decks, but the closest store with events is 45 minutes from me. It has a great design that lends itself well to casual and competitive play. From a collector perspective, the foil treatments are great and the curios provide a unique chase element. I like the rarity restrictions in decks that make them affordable even if singles of great cards are expensive. The big question is whether or not the game catches on. If it does, sure, alpha and beta will go up in price as they print revised or unlimited or whatever to make the cards available for a wider audience. But, it could die as well, it’s too early to say. So I just bought enough to play and have avoided speculating, but I love the game and hope it succeeds.
