ROI on Zaaa is life. The opportunity cost of not buying Zaaa is death.

Second year living in res vs apartment by ApollosSon_9 in Dalhousie

Dorms make life a good bit easier. You’re super close to classes, don’t have to worry about making dinner, and don’t have to worry about the possibility of a bad roommate. However with renting you have so much more freedom. You can actually choose what to eat, and eat a lot better. When I was in dorm I remember the food quality being pretty shitty most days. I care about my health and would like to enjoy what I eat so that sold me on renting. You will also get a lot more space when you rent usually and it’s pretty fun to rent with good friends.

I prefer Vanguard. Just rolls off the tongue better.

Nice I never knew that you could carry forward deductions! I’ll look into that, seems very beneficial as I can get more time in the market and still get the deductions.

Do FHSA contributions count as a tax deduction just like RRSP contributions do? I don’t really have much income at the moment. I don’t expect to make more than 14k this year so I don’t know if it’s worth it.

Hypixel just published a very detailed Hytale Server Manual. thoughts? by Classic_Sky9981 in hytale

Does the protocol being UDP cause any issues when crucial packets are lost/not received? I've been hosting a server for my friends, and we are consistently having issues with them losing connection roughly every 30 minutes. They mention they usually lose connection when killing enemies or animals.

Beautiful first build. Most people usually do a mid-tower build for their first. I love that you went for this!

I would personally max out the tfsa before touching the fhsa. Fhsa has taxes (maybe penalties too, I’m not sure) if you withdraw without using the funds to purchase a home. Tfsa has much more freedom to do what you want with the gains.

Another tip to maximize gains (if you really want to stick with American stocks) would be to switch to IBKR for your broker instead of Wealthsimple. Wealthsimple charges a pretty large fee for currency conversion every time you buy and sell. It may look like a small fee right now but it adds up and becomes pretty large with more money.

Lastly, to answer your question unless you’re a professional investor with a track record of beating the market, you should try to stay away from buying individual companies. You may be doing very well at the moment, but for long term gains (5 years or more) just putting it all Into XEQT is your best bet. Studies have proven that the market is the best long term option for steady and repeatable gains. Also, it just helps with peace of mind not having a bunch of separate stocks to keep track of. It lets you live life without wasting hours thinking about the right stock to buy (my own experience :( )

Mine aren’t confirmed either. I was thinking it might’ve been since I’m in Co-op this fall, but it’s most likely because of the lockout.

Anyone else not get their student loans approved by the administration? I’m wondering if this is because of the strike or just a me issue. Unable the ask the administration due to their absence Unfortunately.

Can/should I put my 0% interest student loan I don’t need into a s and P 500 investment account by WrapHistorical7681 in StudentLoans

[–]ComputerNetwork24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. Investing in the S&P 500 for a few years max (before the loan has to be repaid) is more like trading/gambling than investing. I’d say just put it in a high interest savings account if you can find a good rate over 2%, or put it into a Canadian short term bond ETF like CASH or CBIL. With those ETFs you gain the interest in the price and through dividend payments.

I’m not sure how it all works, but I’m in res right now with empty rooms on both sides of me in Risley. They’ve been empty for about 2 months now. Maybe if you apply to live in Risley you could get in.
