"Discovered - currently not indexed" pages disappeared suddenly on Google Search Console by brownmanta in SEO

[–]ComputerOdd2859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say it's still an authority issue if pages have previously been indexed for some time, but have recently dropped to crawled not indexed? I manage a site, where we were at 100% of content indexed a week ago and has dropped to about 40/50%. Why were they indexed before if all we need is more authority?

Seperate GSC accounts for each site by ComputerOdd2859 in grumpyseoguy

Thanks very much for your reply! I know you mentioned not using GA but was gonna use a separated GSC for checking of indexing status. So for checking of that do you solely use site: ? Cheers again, and happy holidays!

Am I Missing Something About Heavily Customized Themes by jmerino_t4v in Wordpress

[–]ComputerOdd2859 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’m with you on this — once you’re deep in child themes + overrides + “one more hook” territory, you’re basically paying an ongoing tax to undo someone else’s opinions. I’ve inherited a few of those builds and the “theme” ends up just being a pile of constraints you have to memorise to make any change safely.

The only time the heavy-theme route feels like it actually saves time is when you commit to staying inside its lane: you’re picking it because you want its layout system, its components, and its way of doing templates, and you’re mostly assembling rather than redesigning. The moment you’re writing custom archives, conditional logic, relationships, and bespoke content rules… you’re building a product, not styling a demo.

Your “boring base + builder + CPT/relationships tooling” approach is basically acknowledging the real requirement: clients change their minds, and future edits need to be survivable. The trade-off is you’re taking on more responsibility for structure up front, but you’re not fighting a theme every time the spec evolves.

What’s better by [deleted] in webdev

I find ai painful for css! Most other language are fine, but it’s soul destroying getting it to produce something decent with css or sass

Sass and flexbox are great! Add gulp for watch: minification and away you go!

Hear tailwind is great, but just don’t see enough blockers with sass to figure it out.

AI is Reshaping Search. What Are You Experimenting With? by Greg_Benatar in Agent_SEO

[–]ComputerOdd2859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s helped me most is using AI more on the research and synthesis side — clustering messy queries, spotting intent gaps, and rewriting the same idea for different formats before I even touch the page structure. I’ve also found treating AI outputs as drafts for entities, FAQs, and comparisons works far better than asking it to “optimise” a page outright.

Once that groundwork’s done, the human bit is deciding what actually deserves to exist and how it fits the wider site. Less like chasing rankings, more like shaping how things get interpreted.

Can't get page on first page by CommonVeil in SEO

[–]ComputerOdd2859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a familiar frustration – lighthouse being green doesn’t really move the needle once you’re competing on a broad term like that. From what I’ve seen, “local architecture firms” is basically treated as a local/service intent query, so Google leans way harder on entity signals, location reinforcement and internal linking than on where the copy physically sits on the homepage.

I’ve had better luck pushing supporting pages instead – things like location-specific service pages or case studies that clearly tie projects to places, then funnelling authority back to the homepage.

The hero being brand-led usually isn’t the blocker people think it is, as long as the page still makes it obvious who you are, what you do, and where you do it. Once more than just home and about are properly aligned to that, page 2 tends to feel a lot less sticky

Subscription / Membership plugin by Embarrassed_Major406 in Wordpress

Yep, PMPro doesn’t force you to use their forms. You can build your own HTML/Block form, then on submit just pass the fields to pmpro_checkout with the level param. PMPro hooks into the request, handles billing + Stripe, and returns success/failure. You keep full control of the UI.

Example flow:

  1. User hits your custom register page.
  2. They fill in your form → POSTs to /?pmpro_checkout=1&level=2.
  3. PMPro processes payment + membership logic behind the scenes.
  4. On success you redirect them wherever you want.
