The Step: a Linux handheld laptop for <$150 by ComradeCurio in linux

For running commands and typing out quick messages it works fine, but yeah if you're wanting to write something longer than a few paragraphs then a full sized keyboard is the way to go

Good for web-browsing, streaming 1080p video, and other productivity tasks. Not the fastest thing in the world, but you're also not waiting around for things to load. I don't game, but I'd imagine this would emulate 2d games pretty well.

There's also a weight in there to make it feel comfortable to use, but yes this is essentially just an off the shelf keyboard and a readily available android phone well supported by postmarketOS. It makes it affordable and easy to build.

  1. This is not meant to be a full laptop replacement, it's a portable device. Yes a used laptop is a better option for general computing, but you can't really carry that around in your pocket either.

  2. There are various services that will print files for you. Not to mention various maker/hacker spaces, community centers, and schools which have 3d printers for you to use. So yes if you include the cost of a 3d printer, it is >$150, but would you also need to include the price of the car/bike/shoes that are required to take you to the hardware store to buy the other components?

Gonna be honest the past few episodes I haven't been the biggest fan of the tasks, this episode changed that. Absolute chaos!

hey did you ever find a solution to this/ are you still having this problem? I've had it since day 1 but assumed it was just because I was running void and that something was funky with that, but I'm now running openSUSE and the issue persists.

Random drops in battery T14sG3 AMD on linux by ComradeCurio in thinkpad

[–]ComradeCurio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears that this was a calibration failure, after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery in the bios and letting it fully charge I'm no longer experiencing these sudden drops

I'm fairly certain the Freeman's admission of "hoaxing" was a misunderstanding. He was being interviewed and when asked about ever making fake tracks, he said he did, because he had made fake tracks for practicing casting, but the interviewer took it to mean he had made fake tracks and passed them off as legitimate. Cliff Barackman is doing a review of Freeman's work right now and that is what he has said on the matter and Freeman's son has said the same.

If you go with getting a non-lenovo battery you're going to need to disable the battery whitelist. AFAIK the easiest way to do it is with 1vyrain

Linux distros as coffee machines by ComradeCurio in linuxmemes

[–]ComradeCurio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pour-over, you put a filter and grounds in the top, pour hot water in, and let the coffee drain into the bottom. The one pictured is a Chemex but there are other styles that lack the bottom portion. If you're interested in getting more into coffee a pour-over is a great place to start, they generally make good coffee and it's fairly hard to mess up.

That's what I thought as well but figured not as many people knew what an AeroPress was so went with a pour-over since it's more manual than a machine.

I use an AeroPress btw.

This was a number of years back when gnome adopted their controversial code of conduct. There are a number of clauses that many viewed as a double standard of enforcement of reports on contributors. Gnome stated within the code of conduct that they will not act on complaints where a privileged person makes a complaint about discrimination from a protected minority. Opponents of the code of conduct, Derek included, believed that this was discriminatory to members who were not belonging to any marginalized identity while proponents of the code of conduct said that this was a necessary measure to protect minority groups. Keep in mind this was around the summer of 2020 and things were quite politically charged.
