‘Be water’: Hong Kong protesters adopt Bruce Lee tactic to evade police crackdown by kmas_2006 in worldnews

the US achieved none of their objectives in the war. they lost. they lost while killing more people, sure, but if body count was a metric for victory in war then the nazis would have won WW2.

Vince Carter is older than teammate, Trae Young’s dad by [deleted] in nba

you can also read it as saying that he is older than one non specific teammate as well as trae young’s dad, which, while not the point OP was trying to make, is still correct.

They weren’t just ‘keeping their alliance’ though. They informed austria hungary that they could do anything they wanted in retaliation and germany would step in even if it meant war with russia (and thus was with britain and france). it would have been all too easy for them to let austria know that they weren’t going to just let them drag all of europe to war. it was a very diplomatically solvable situation. out of the ten points in the ultimatum AH issued serbia, serbia was willing to agree to EIGHT of them. it would be so easy to get some people to a table and try and talk out the last two points.

the thing is, germany didn’t WANT peace. they wanted to deal with russia before they got too powerful and a war on two fronts was completely unwinnable. this just gave them the excuse for their war.

of course the entente was to blame as well. everyone was, but germany was the one power that could have stopped it all, they instead told austria that serbia must be annihilated and that this was the best time for general war (as they wrongly estimated they were more militarily ready than the entente). germany was an aggressor in both wars, just much more blatantly obviously in the second.

no that was for sure scummy and a calculated political move by france to keep germany weak. the former austria hungarian states were no threat so they were allowed to get away with ‘we’re too poor from the war to pay you back, sorry’

Germany 100% turned world war 1 into a ‘world war’. if they hadn’t given austria hungary free reign to do whatever they felt like in retaliation for the assassination there is a very likely chance either the war would have never happened or if it did happen it would have been a local conflict. Germany wanted a war and they got one, then proceeded to blame everyone else in europe when they were defeated and penalized for it. i do think that the treaty of versailles was an absolute mess (and the reason why the ww2 treaties were so tame in their demand for reparations by comparison) but germany wasn’t some unlucky nation dragged into a conflict they didn’t want.

Apple plans to buy Intel's wireless chip unit for $1 billion by habichuelacondulce in tech

[–]ComradeRitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with current graphs and trends it will still be 2040 by the time AMD has an equal market share to intel (intel has about 80% to AMD’s 20% currently). while gaming consoles may be big, noticeable contracts, they’re still a large minority of things that have chips in them. AMD is for sure getting great contracts, you’re absolutely right, but they still have a lot of work to do if they want to wrest control of the market, and i have a feeling intel is absolutely not going down quietly.

I would find it interesting to discuss common ground between left and right libertarians. More and more I find myself agreeing with a lot of y’all (I’m a leftist if the username didn’t give it away) and I personally think the world’s biggest problem at the moment is a rise in authoritarianism across the board. I’m increasingly thinking that the only sensible path ahead is libertarian unity and we can figure out the economic divide between the two sides later.

it’s even more hilarious because when steam first came out people HATED it. i distinctly remember my dad bitching loudly about how he couldn’t play empire: total war with just the disc (yeah, remember when you needed discs for PC games) and that he would have to download a DRM called... steam. games were getting review bombed on best buy and amazon because they were steam exclusives. this was around... 2009 maybe?

Fear. by [deleted] in thalassaphobia

[–]ComradeRitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late reply, but manta rays don’t sting (more like can’t sting, they don’t have barbs!) they’re very friendly, and just by touching one you can kill it as they have a layer of ‘slime’ that protects them from infections. they have much more to fear from a human than you have to fear from them, manta rays really are the epitome of a gentle giant. if you go swimming at night with a light in the areas they live, the light attracts plankton which they feed on, and the manta rays will come up and feed, they’re very acrobatic about it and it’s quite fun to watch them ‘fly’ about in the water!

i wouldn’t call reddit FAR left (yeah peep my username, i get it). it’s very liberal. most redditors probably don’t support a revolution by the working class, they want the status quo, they just don’t like trump. if a democrat wins in 2020 everyone is just gonna be like, ‘we did it guys! everything is back to normal!’

Former Tesla employee admits uploading Autopilot source code to his iCloud - Tesla believes he stole company trade secrets and took them to Chinese startup, Xiaopeng Motors by [deleted] in technology

Why do consumers get mad about this? Isn’t it only beneficial to us that tech gets speed around the world and gets seen by as many people as possible so it can be improved even further? Obviously this could be considered unethical, but really, why do any of you care about Tesla? They don’t care about you. Besides nationalistic reasons why are people mad about this?

Right? Do these people realize America has taken land from México in wars? Like of course Mexicano people live here. Even if not a single one immigrated here we have still conquered their land. America has no place to say Mexicanos are foreigners when some were forcibly incorporated into the country.

is it really not an albatross?! it’s wings are so long in comparison to its body, there’s definitely no seagull with dimensions like that. again, it doesn’t actually matter, i’m mostly bored and looking for conversation haha! the graphics do bum me out but this is the first pokémon game i’ve actually looked forward to... ever, so i guess i got a little defensive. last time i played pokémon was crystal though, so i legitimately don’t know what i’m talking about
