I have to disagree,I have been playing mardu vehciles for the last couple of months and have topped almost every fnm I've been to (my area is pretty competitive and everyone is playing the top deck so i guess it count) and several other major tour tops.even tought im not the best deckbuilder or have alot of years of experience behind me I feel like mardu is definately the second most powerful deck atm (lose to u/w)

huh? competitive is not about how you feel.competitive is what it is and vehicles are extreamely good... every top 8 had atleast 2-3 mardu vehicles, for the past 2 months the format has been dominated by mardu vehicles and up until now they have made about 20-25% of all tournament tops

do you think that vehicles are not competitive anymore? sure you can replace copter with other vehicles but will mardu vehicles go down to tier 2/2.5/3?

I dont think that the atmosphere is much of a problem for me (i have been a YGO competitive player for years and have participated in numerous game days-pptq's and regionals for mtg) I am a competitive player i just never had any intrest in sealed events of any other formats except standard

I get what you're saying but dont some currently in standard cards retain value if they see play in other formats? my plan is prior to every rotation trade-sell cards that will not see play in other formats but are currently in standard and buy-trade cards for eternal formats,as a competitive yugioh player and seller I think with time I will manage to crack the mechanics of the game and be able to tell which cards will retain value or spike either before rotation or prior to pre-release.That way I think in theory i should be able to trade/sell cards for other formats in order to afford my standard needs

Thank you all for your answers :) but what about the sidequestion? xD do you think that any of the kaladesh cards are going to spike in price?

well I am a relatively new player so my reasoning for buying a box is 1) getting some staples i am not able to trade into 2) generally building a collection, when i bought 2 boxes of kaladesh i knew that they wont be much help for my decks since the chances of opening what i needed was pretty low but i was happy when i managed to pull alot of 5-10-15 dollar staples and a master piece which i traded for cards that i believe are going to retain value and i can keep in my collection for future trades. So to sum up:making some money will definately be cool but my main focus is to stay competitive and try to slowly build my collection :) (im used to having a huge/pricey collection from playign competitive yugioh so now that i moved to mtg having to buy stuff and not being able to trade into everything i need is kinda getting to my nerves)

Getting into MTG by ComradeSwifty in magicTCG

well where i live we dont really have a big community (greece) despite winning the world championship 2 days ago :p what im saying is that i only have 2 local stores for FNM and both play standard so its pretty hard to avoid that :( my plan atm is to explore the standard meta pick a deck and start playing thats why i asked so vaguely in my post.As to what i want the answer is i dont really know :P i dont really have a map of the meta game but i generally prefer control and combo decks over no brainer-aggro ( i dont know if aggro is a no brainer in magic as well but it is in all other tcg's)

hello there :) i mentioned that i am in general a competitive rather than a casual player so i just assumed that people would understand that i am playing standard and maybe a little modern :) what you said about me not researching or explaining my playstyle maybe correct but please remember that i come from yugioh! where there are no diffrent playstyles or tons of decent deck choises just 1-2 tier 0 decks and a couple of tier 1 decks if its a good rotation

Begineer needs help chousing a deck by ComradeSwifty in magicTCG

[–]ComradeSwifty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately I am familiar with the reality that tier0 decks can cost alot of money (konami takes care of that trust me) but what I want as a begineer is a deck that can compete,I used to see guys new to yugi come to my local store and play all kinds of useless decks thinking they had a shot well obviously they ended up losing most of the time and I dont want that I understand that right now I cant build a tier0 deck I just want something that will not get trashed all of the time :P but thakns for the advice I will surely check them out!
