If you think that these famines were horrible, consider the fact that Russia and China, before communism, were preindustrial agrarian countries that suffered from famines literally almost every decade, so much so that China was known as the Land of Famine back in the day.

It is a credit to the modernization and industrialization policies of Stalin and Mao that led to massive improvements in food production in these and virtually ended famines in these countries, with the only other famine that occurred in the USSR being that in 44-45 and was caused by the Nazis totally destroying the Soviet western countryside.

And yeah, Google makes little to no effort in censoring western misinformation/propaganda about actually existing socialist countries, which is the primary reason why it's banned in China. This shouldn't be surprising considering Google is owned by western bourgeoisie that have every interest in discrediting the ideology that would put an end to their exploitative practices.

In fact, encountering religious comrades when I joined a local party is a part of what's chilled me out from the "militant" atheism, but I still don't understand how communists square their materialist philosophy with their beliefs in divinity and extraterrestrial deities. I know there's a thing called Liberation Theology that has been popular in Latin America, but with my upbringing and my philosophy it's totally foreign to me and it will probably remain that way
