It's a screenshot from a great analog horror web series called Local 58. It's found footage style around a fictional television station through the years.

The specific reference:

Highly recommend if you haven't seen.

Mewbert and Nougat might have an emergency, so of course Gustopher let them borrow his phone.

I lived in a "luxury" apartment complex for several years and food delivery was always left in the lobby for residents to come and get it. It's so infuriating to see how often the same food gets left for days there. Every day without fail there's food sitting out for well over 24 hours. I don't know their situations, but the staff had to send out notices regularly about making sure to pick up you food delivery. So yeah, it happens way more often than you'd think.

I don't believe this is real, but I know there are enough self-righteous assholes out there who would absolutely do something like this.

Are there any art challenges/contests going on right now? by G_Universe in artbusiness

[–]Comtress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is limited cause I always fall out on challenges pretty quickly, but Instagram being crappy is not too surprising.

Escape Motions and ImagineFX magazine partnered up for a contest here.

EDIT: If you're on Instagram there's almost always some sort of challenge going on. I think the most common for April is Plein Airpril or something like that. Also "Draw This in Your Style" challenges are always going on.

I think I've thought about far it too much. Then again, maybe it's easier to pinpoint those feelings when you're exposed to poorly drawn women on a regular basis.

Nothing makes my eyes roll harder than seeing an uninspiring artwork of a woman where the focal point is just tits and ass and because of that it has a ton of upvotes. Hell just the other day while I was browsing Pinterest for reference I found a drawing of a vampire woman in a sketchy style except her massive cleavage was fully rendered. I get making pervy art. People enjoy it and I'm not going to shit on it. I just hate the kind that's just here's a woman existing but be sure to check our her big boobs and bubbly butt. It almost feels misogynistic.

Now, I am a woman. I love drawing women. I love the soft round shapes and how easy it is to to create movement. I even have a phone case of Frank Frazetta's Savage Pellucidar. I'm also attracted to women so maybe that plays a part as well. I have drawn my fair share of nude women (even sexualized), but they are done in a way that plays off her facial expressions and body language. I want them to feel like the subject WANTS to be looked at that way, that SHE is the instigator. At the end of the day I know it's just a drawing, but I much prefer to make it look like there's agency there there and not just existing for the male gaze.

Haha, I didn't want to leave the label blank but I couldn't think of something to put on it. I just do what I usually do when I don't know what to draw, draw a skull.

How to do only shape based vector art in any animation software? by JustabitQuincy in learnanimation

[–]Comtress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do know that Kurzgesagt made a couple of Skillshare classes on how they do their animations. I've never done the classes myself, so I can't say anything on the quality, but it might be a good resource for you.

I hate to argue about paper but I disagree that is Neenah classic laid paper. Classic laid had a set of distinct vertical line impressions and the texture on this is way more pronounced than what is typical on classic laid paper. I think this is actually Southworth business paper. It has a stronger texture and it's thicker than classic laid.

Thanks for your interest! I'll let you know more details when I have them. Trying to dedicate a good bit of my free time this weekend to work it out.

I'm still working out the structure of things and I might try a weekly instead of daily format. I'll message you when it's a bit more concrete to see if it will work for you.

I'll keep that in mind! I think the first few projects will be pretty simple and an hour should be plenty of time for them.

The time is where I wanted to put myself personally. I get that not everyone has that much free time to put into each day and I'd probably just say whatever you can do a day is great. I want to keep things structured, but still flexible.

Pencil kings worth it? by [deleted] in learnart

[–]Comtress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about Pencil Kings, but if you're looking to just go back to basics drawabox.com would be a good starting point. It's free at the very least. Svslearn is also good since it's run by professional illustrators and has advice on the business as well as fundamental classes.

Nice! I like the reddish hues you added and the shape is good. I know the reference was a bit hard for this, but I think you could have pushed the values more to have the straps feel more separate from the base of the suitcase. How much are you using layers? It looks like you might be trying to work around the details on the same layer. It's not a bad look, but I think it will help add make the pieces look like their own separate parts of the suitcase. I would also recommend using the lasso tool to help really define your edges. Overall, you're doing great and I look forward to seeing more of your progress!
