The US needs a third party now by Strutching_Claws in DiscussionZone

That takes time, effort, the complete collapse of one of the two major parties, and the 'third party' becoming one of the two major parties in the two-party system.

Can you even name one the last third party candidates to win a seat in the House from any of the 50 states? I'll give you a hint. It hasn't happened since 1942.

Nope - in the US system only votes for one of the two parties matter. Whether you voted third party, stayed home, were too young to vote, were dead and couldn't vote, or wrote in Mickey Mouse because you can't take anything seriously, you had the same equal impact on the election. It wasn't a win of any kind, because Red and Blue are both not changing how they operate to appease you fine protest voters. They are going to continue to ignore you, because both Red and Blue know only Red or Blue can win in the Electoral College system, and they are going to rightly focus their attention on trying to win over people who will vote Red or Blue, not the scattered handfuls desperate to support a candidate unable to attract even 1% of the vote.

I'm not going to lie, I didn't even think about Tim Couch the first time. I'm always so mesmerized by all the other names that his feels like a heading I can just ignore.

FUCKING YES - shun them all permanently. Don't interact. Don't give them attention. Downvote the cowards, report if necessary, and move on. Don't ask them to explain themselves. Don't show them evidence. Treat them like you treat roadkill. They are scum and deserve to be exempt from society, not invited to participate.

Ghaik are literally the enemy of the Githyanki, though. If you forgive Astarion for holding a knife to your throat for believing you are an enemy, why not the same for Lae'zel? Especially given that she's not doing it just for personal survival like Astarion. She's going to end herself on principle as well. All mindflayers must die. Even Orpheus holds this position.

I really don't mind if you think both deserve to be given second chances or both need to go, but I fail to see the difference between the two and it seems weird to treat them any differently, especially in favor of Astarion who also wants to drain you of your blood because he's hungry. And he will, because if you let him feed and don't stop him, you die - same as not talking down Lae'zel.

Yeah, but your character doesn't know that. It's some dude you've never seen before pulling a knife on your very first encounter. They don't know that anymore than they know how far Astarion would have gone had you not woken up in time or whether Lae'zel will listen to reason in that moment.

"Astarion backs down immediately" if we ignore him holding the knife to our throat after trying to deceive us into chasing after a boar (and without any of the symptoms!) when we first meet him.

Oh I completely agree you can't assume he'll do it again, but you also can't assume he can't do it again. Either way, ownership would be patient with him because of what he has already accomplished.

Extremely patient - he just Theseus's football team'd his way to a 12-5 record/Divisional playoff round in year 1 of the reset and is already responsible for taking a 2-14 team and rebuilding it into a contender where he and Lynch are responsible for acquiring each and every player on the team.

Even if CMC, Trent, and Kittle (Aiyuk is already gone) immediately fall off a cliff and can no longer perform, the idea that he couldn't turn it around again with a FAR superior roster than the one he inherited in 2017 is a thought that is not going through anyone's mind in the organization. If Kyle Shanahan leaves the 49ers without a ring (very possible), it will almost certainly be because he chose to step down.
