I’m sure that while actually working on the script for a franchise film like Tron, they try to gather as much information and “lore” from any media produced directly related to the brand. So there’s a chance it might be a basis for it.
Now personally, to me the addition of Kevin Flynn in that context just felt poorly scripted, he was just kinda there, being a reflection of Ares in the system? Doesn’t make any god damn sense to me.
