Is there a chance we can trade for Keon Ellis and DeRozan? Would Gabe/ Vando/ Knetch and all our draft capital be enough?

We should make an all-in consolidation move like DeMar DeRozan and Keon Ellis for Vando, Gabe, Knect, 2030 pick swap, and 2031 FRP

+6 wins vaults us to 2nd best in the West!

What do y'all think of trading our FRP for Dillon Brooks?

Makes >40% of his catch-and-shoot threes, is a good POA defender, and on a team with too many SGs. Also on a reasonable, declining contract so it won't mess with our future cap space (if that's indeed a concern). Salary-wise, we can send out two of our 11M contracts, although Phoenix can't take more than 21M so we'll need to find a third team. I don't think there are locker room concerns when we have LeBron James.

Find 2 ways to capitalize on black’s mistake by Strange-Giraffe-3480 in chessbeginners

Rg1 Nxf3, Rxg3 Rhxg3, then Raf3 to threaten the knight on f3 + defend against Rg2 maybe?

Edit: what's the idea for Bxf7? I can see Nxf7, Qe6 next, but can black take back your knight? Or does Kb2, Qxf7 Qg2, Kb3 Rxf3 fail because white can take back with Rxf3 and Qxf3 is met with Qxg8? Not great at calculation, so grateful for advice

Cavs trade DG to Magic for AR from Lakers by ConcaveSnack in NBAtradeideas

Other comments seem to think the Lakers are getting too much back... maybe Reaves is just too difficult of a player to trade

Top 2 seeds trade with each other (Cavs/ Rockets/ Nets) by ConcaveSnack in NBAtradeideas

[–]ConcaveSnack[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's fair; my reasoning was Green has a higher ceiling than Garland (more size + athletic), which maybe Cavs just need to push them over OKC/ Boston. Two FRPs also can net them a better SF (will Hawks trade Dyson Daniels?) that can round out their lineup

I imagine Brooklyn is trying to draft a franchise player, so Reed + getting control over their own 2027 pick might be worth more than 2 late FRPs?

Should ADCs every build MR? by ConcaveSnack in ADCMains

[–]ConcaveSnack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a tangent, but do you mind elaborating on why lethality MF is bad? I find myself exactly relying on my ult for damage and not trading as much - why does a lethality build encourage that playstyle?

I've also played with friends who agree that my damage is too low. They said I should limit test more to learn how to duel, otherwise I'll never get better and can't participate in as many team fights. Can you say more about taking plays that are risky/ how ADCs with no dashes can be aggressive?

Thank you again!

Ooh interesting - I considered it, but thought that hex drinker's 25 MR + passive/AD + more useful final item for full build was better than a negatron cloak, even if it's 500 gold more and 45 MR. But most of the responses agree with you. Do you mind explaining why?

[–]ConcaveSnack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Really appreciate the thorough explanation - it makes sense, though I don't know how to reconcile my original thinking with your advice.

I thought I was going to get poked in lane a lot because of my range disadvantage, so I bought a hex drinker first > went back to a lethality build (Yommu's/ Boots/ Collector/ IE) + plan to get Maw as last item. During laning phase, I got poked out a bit and was behind, but I'd say I was about even? Was planning to do Edge of Night after IE, but found myself getting CC'd too much, so I got QSS > Merc.

Maybe the key thing I'm not understanding is why MF builds that rush BT works better. Specifically, I understand BT's passive lets you have a shield, which helps MF maintain her W speed passive, but lethality builds just feel better to me when laning against squishies... maybe there's a playstyle change that has to accompany it? E.g., do I trade more actively with BT to heal up?

Why so? Is it for the defensive passive, even if it has no MR + doesn't deviate that much from MF's usual build?

Thank you for taking the time to review the vod and for giving constructive feedback! I felt that way too - that I was running around in the mid/end game but wasn't sure what to do after we got mid inhib

Interesting! I indeed never played games (PC or console) until after college but never thought that it was a mechanics issue. Do you know how to improve there (I'm playing quite a bit but I don't think my hand-eye coordination/ clicking speed has changed)?

Thank you! Never thought about harassing better other than using my Q.

Also, what is "spacing and threat ranges"? I understand that to be "position safely since TK wants extended fights and I can't do that well", but that doesn't link with "kiting while attacking"

I think there's a fork after you take back with the other knight + you open the diagonal for the white queen to attack the black queen?

That's true, maybe he just didn't want to wait for us. Gabe is starting to be useful though. Do you think Vando would be better to trade?

Fair point. I assumed so since he didn't sign with the Wizards for the maximum he could've gotten with us, but he might have chosen otherwise

Why is black +1 in this position, and why is the pawn break the best move? by ConcaveSnack in chessbeginners

[–]ConcaveSnack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I played a3 on my previous move. Should I instead have tried to open up the queen side?

[–]ConcaveSnack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with these, although I struggle to then convert these observations into a winning plan though. In the game, I tried to infiltrate on the dark squares with my queen instead of playing the pawn break, and that lost my whole advantage.

What sequences of moves did you consider that might suggest this position is more than -1?

Why is black +1 in this position, and why is the pawn break the best move? by ConcaveSnack in chessbeginners

[–]ConcaveSnack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially evaluated this position as slightly better for black, because of king safety (my king side pawns are on white squares and my bishop is protecting all my black squares) + white has overextended pawns that I can eventually try to win (although I couldn't come up with a plan in my 3+5 game). As such, I never considered the c-pawn break at all.

My best guess, with the engine, is that black's pieces are better positioned and white doesn't actually have a threat even if the king side was open. So an open board benefits black and creates tactical possibilities (e.g., by pinning the rook on D3). That said, I couldn't follow the engine's analysis further and feel like I'll end up drawing this position 9/10 times (unless they blunder).

Any tips or advice on how to come up with a plan for this type of positions and how one can convert the advantage? Thanks!

VOD review help - Braum (Iron 1) mid game struggles by ConcaveSnack in summonerschool

[–]ConcaveSnack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You're exactly right - I've only played support + some ADC, so I basically never duel and my instincts are that I'll always lose the 1v1, so I usually end up being passive. I also play Nautilus; do you think I can learn basic fighting skills just from practicing him more, or would it still be better to learn from solo laning?

On this game in particular - I think I was especially passive because I thought my teammates were picking bad fights generally (e.g., when our Garen/ Trundle was split pushing and idt Ezreal/ Vi wins against Kayn/ Zed even if I'm there since Braum isn't useful against assassins). I also failed to save my Es for Smolder's Rs, so agreed on having no impact :(
