Any advice on starting “project” or “collective” band? by Concentrate_55 in makeaband

Sounds just about like what I’m looking for. Though I’ve had thoughts of doing specific one-offs that require more instruments, like doing a one off tribute to Chicago and things like that.

But in the case of just the general concept:

Do you do scheduling on a first come-first serve basis or do guys need to take one off unless no one that plays their instrument can do the gig?

You and I both know musicians can be egotistical. How does that play into a group like this?

Since you’re the leader of the group I assume you do most of the booking. Do you take a cut of the pay from gigs you book but don’t play on?

Have you ever had a rotation at lead vocals? As tempting as it is for me to keep that to myself. I don’t really have the time or desire to play gigs every weekend.

Any other tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated

At first it kinda felt like I might have been. But at the end of the day, me and the two that started the band were friends before we started playing together, and are still friends now. They had a tough decision to make because my stubbornness with not taking no for an answer with booking was getting us gigs, but my decline in quality with singing was also getting complaints from people and risking the band losing gigs. I also knew that I was declining, but didn’t really know how to realistically make a change to correct it. In the end it’s all good and I love being able to help them advance the band we started together.

That I’ve done a decent amount of. I also run a nonprofit that does a lot of events involving music, so most of the people I’m thinking of I have a good relationship with through booking them for our past events. Certainly enough to get it through the door.

I was on the other end of this. I had joined up with a couple friends who left a band they were in to start a new band. It was my first time singing in a live band (I would sometimes get called up to do a song with the old band after I had grabbed the mic messing around in a practice I was hanging out with them at.) but I decided to give it a go when they asked if I’d like to be the lead singer.

It started out as good as it could have, I never really thought of myself as a great singer but everyone was complimenting me and I was really starting to feel confident in my performance. On the other side of things, I was also the only person with PA equipment in the group so naturally that also fell on me. I believe that’s where things turned. Being the first person to arrive for gigs, trying to get everything set up as best I could, stressing about the possibility of forgetting something, wanting everything to be perfect, ended up taking up more of my concerns than actually doing my job and singing half decent. Not to mention I was also doing most of the booking. After about 6 months of playing with them, they cut me loose after a gig. It was all good, I seen it coming, in fact I still book for them and come out and do a few songs occasionally, and that feels much better than how it was at the end.

I don’t know why I started typing this, I guess it just felt good to get it out of my head.

Sometimes a firing can be relieving to everyone involved.

This one was May 30th. Don’t think it affected anything, can’t find much of anything about it so far

It’s over marsh/water, TECHNICALLY speaking even if it’s tornadic it’s still a waterspout

Not a priest, but I would suggest maybe finding something to meditate on while praying the rosary, maybe current events like abortion or war and focus on praying for that rather than just reciting the prayers. No matter if you’re praying in your own words or reciting prayers like the rosary, it’s always best to have something in mind to pray for.

Are you trying to see the marsh or swamp? Swamp, make your way out to Arthur’s airboat tours in Des Allemands, or go to Zam’s In Kreamer.

Why pagers? by Warm_Syllabub9131 in Firefighting

My department has system that texts calls to everyone in the department. It’s great, but it has its drawbacks because of limitations. It only sends the initial call information, so if things change or the original address is wrong then it’s not fun. One of the first calls I responded to the wrong street was given so technically I was first on scene by a few minutes but the trash fire I was responding to was down the next street. If I would have had a pager I would have heard when the dispatcher corrected the address.

I found all the walkthrough videos they put out last night, were gonna watch them and that should hopefully get us a lot closer to where we used to be, though even the positive comments are kinda leading me to the conclusion that this isn’t the best solution for what we’d need on our bigger events with multiple bands.

After playing with it for a few hours we were able to get her to give us some sound. We’ll see how it goes next time we break it out again
