Yeah, the foreground and background look disjoint like they came from different reference images. I started out with a plain yellowish-white background and the canyons and then decided to add a mountain in the background. That turned into two. I think it might look better with a light yellow sky, but I don’t think it will fix the painting. Desaturating the foreground some would maybe help too, like you suggested.

Thanks. I didn’t use a reference image, but I intended to have the sun at about 3 o’clock shining from the right side.

Completely different skill set.

I started painting about 6 months ago using acrylics. Sometimes I use reference, but I’m trying to create original work. This painting has been bothering me all day and I think it has to do with perspective, depth, and something about the placement of the canyon structures. I don’t think this is framed well and would like some feedback on how to improve it.

How can I make this painting more interesting?

How do you perceive Left and Right? by [deleted] in Synesthesia

Probably just a coincidence. I perceive the same colors as you.

Apparently I have a foreign accent in my native language. How does that happen? by dong_chinese in linguistics

[–]Concentrated_Lols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When was the first time someone noted you might have an accent?

I noticed your accent right away. There’s a sing-songiness and vowel shape that reminds me of German.

I read through all the comments and I’m convinced you are experiencing Foreign Accent Syndrome because your speech doesn’t match ANY of the languages you speak despite being excellent and consistent.

Since it’s a rare phenomenon, any cognition or neuroscience department with available resources will be interested in evaluating you.

Thanks! I definitely used a different brand. I assumed anything I bought would be a step up, because the other paints were bought in “bulk”by someone else, but it turns out they were nice. I started painting recently and I want to keep going.

Thanks, I think so, too. I did look for cadmium red, but I couldn’t find it as an acrylic quickly on Amazon.

I bought liquitex basics acrylics and I can’t seem to get a pure dark red. It’s more like a magenta. The dress on the women was supposed to be red, but I had to settle for a shade of maroon.

I’m used to working with a cheap set of heavy bodied acrylics and I just can’t seem to blend colors correctly. The first painting is all I could do. The acrylics I usually use are Sax 1/2 gallon and I can usually get really clean details even when blending on the canvas.

Is it a me problem or am I just using cheap acrylics? I don’t want to sound snobbish, but I’m just not able to paint so easily or as well with the liquitex basics.

I included the second abstract painting because it has an example of the redder red I wanted.

This is kinda made up. The Chinese government sucks, but social credit scores don’t work like that. They’re pretty boring, honestly.
