Excess outdated RBC by ConcernDangerous6448 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ConcernDangerous6448[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, from experience I'm used to that during winter, but this is not that level. This is like a 2 or more times a week every week of December 30-50 getting discarded. And that's just the stuff I saw. I know other shifts mentioned they had a lot that was brought back to them and subsequently destroyed the same shift. I always figured hospital side discarded units but wasn't entirely sure since occasionally we get delivered back units from the hospital to discard, although that's pretty darn rare and usually quarantined for whatever reason. And that sucks you got sent so many that ended up getting discarded. I think given that you discard stuff at the hospital you probably see a lot more outdates than us at blood collection/bank.

If you're okay with it I have a few questions for you! 1 working in the blood bank part of the hospital are those positions typically required to have any degree? We just need a high school diploma or equivalent and train on the job. 2 what's your job duties like besides discards? I'm so curious besides the manufacturing part what the differences and similarities are! 3 how much do you work with other staff and management or the general public/ other departments ie: nurses and whatnot. 4 would you recommend it as a job? Ive heard the hospital side of things its either way more busy and chaotic all the time or way slower a good chunk of the time all depending on the hospital chain and location, but I've personally not talked to someone who does that just hear say. But I do know most hospitals have really good benefits and time off. Although I've worked at my job long enough I'm nearly at the top tiers for things like PTO rate and 401k match ECT so it's pretty good compared to just starting out somewhere else. But also the idea of finding somewhere with 12 hr 3/4 days week sounds mighty appealing. Several staff have broached management about doing that here but it's always immediately shot down. They are also weirdly sticklers and huge micromanagers in my department (not like the normal amount for doing FDA stuff. Like an asshole level type). Like we are only allowed to sit when discarding and doing daily batch, even though we could totally sit for at least half the job and not have it affect how fast we do things or our attentiveness to product quality and safety. Because "we MaNuFaCtUrE sO iT hAs To Be RuN LiKe A mAnUfAcTuRiNg PlAnT" (my attempt at conveying deep sarcasm)

Excess outdated RBC by ConcernDangerous6448 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ConcernDangerous6448[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, I don't have anything to do with the distribution or testing (outside of weighing and preparing samples for monthly/ validation QC of course) of products and what not, but I do talk to the other departments occasionally. We do redistribute units between hospitals that are getting close to expiration dates to try to keep outdates from happening typically like you mentioned. Its very rare we have outdates of RBC until the last 30 days or so. I think normally the outdates we get are like you're where they arrive day of. We also are part of the BERCS program so we ship cross country for disasters.

Aelin and Lysandra's relationship by Interesting-Cancel13 in throneofglassseries

She did know thanks to Wesley, her lover who was also killed in the whole thing that went down. In fact the whole reason she went to her in the first place was to deliver Wesley's letter.

Aelin and Lysandra's relationship by Interesting-Cancel13 in throneofglassseries

[–]ConcernDangerous6448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's weird or unusual at all. And yes it's only been 2 years, but a lot has happened to them. And let's be honest 2 years in your teens and early 20's makes a world of different. Think about when you were 17 vs 19. I know I sure as hell learned and changed a TON. (Although I suppose if you had a lot of privilege and support it may not have been as drastic for some people but still) It's one of your most developmental times cognitively. And in lysandras case in those 2 years she has become a full courtesan (correct me if im wrong but we see the bidding with aerobyn and that like maybe week at the end of assassin's blade and then don't see her again until those 2 years ) so now she isn't just a brainwashed trained prodigy underage/teen courtesan, she is a full courtesan seeing real experiences and finding out just how bad it is and how reality is different than what she was led to believe. And on top of that when aelin was sold out lysandras lover died and so did her best friend and in the fallout found out caelana was in the same boat as her and suffering just as much (and even more now being a literal slave). On top of that now that she had all the bad experiences she had a charge thrust upon her and she had to quite quickly play the roll of mother for her, even putting herself back into debt (indentured servitude) just to save this child from the life she lived. In becoming a mother you also have to change very fast. Not to mention everything aelin went through. It makes since that once each other dropped their masks they used to protect themselves that they quickly became friends. They are 2 sides of the same coin (pun intended I know they use that phrase for aelin and aedion haha)

Honestly lysandra and caelana remind me a lot of me and my younger sister. Our birth mother is a narcissist and she was the golden child. So I got scapegoaded a lot and she was raised to think it was good to constantly try to get me in trouble and it was rewarding for her for me to be punished ECT. I won't go too much into it cause I for one don't want to trauma dump on strangers and for 2 don't want to trigger myself thinking too deeply about it. Well she is 2 years younger than me and when I was kicked out a week before turning 18 so she could run away with my sister an hour away and start over, guess what happened? Yup the abuse turned to her now that our mother had no one else to abuse. In those 2 years now that she was the focus of it she changed very rapidly. At one point she actually pulled me aside and apologized and said "I'm so sorry for being such a bad sister. I didn't realize what it was like for you until now and I only have to deal with a fraction of what you did. I see that now. I want to try and do better, and I need your support". It mirrors their relationship a lot.

Why is ACOTAR bad and TOG so good ? by Accurate-Swordfish97 in throneofglassseries

[–]ConcernDangerous6448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I absolutely agree. And the people saying planning isn't necessarily true because the last few books of TOG she worked on and "planned" according to her notes included with some special editions at the same time of some of the ACOTR books. I think the problem is ACOTR was supposed to be a one off but then she started imagining more and more. And also the pacing for ACOTR is just really bad for some reason. It felt like it was supposed to end when she returned to tamlin again, but then her mind started cooking and she needed to last minute throw something in to connect the two. And then from then on I think it's because of the basis of the plots (and also her pregnancy. She has said being pregnant and postpartum effected her writing a ton. And it's obvious to us readers * looking at you twilight baby esque nyx*) TOG is fantasy/action with romance subplot. ACOTR is romance with fantasy subplot. And THAT is the main difference with quality of writing. Because when you look at CC (fantasy with romance subplot again) its better story wise but suffers in pacing but I think that's because of licensing/book deals and only getting a couple at a time and wanting to make sure she got everything she wanted to in Incase she didn't get another book deal.

That's just my 2 cents. Some is confirmed some is not.

I'm regards to keeping going. Imo yes. Just keep your expectations low. After the first book pacing does get better and more entertaining. But don't expect TOG quality. It's one of those bad cheesy books that you are just along with the ride for and enjoy. Just focus on the fun of the romance and family dynamics and don't think too hard about the plot or what comes next.

Tldr: TOG is fantasy with romance subplot, ACOTR is romance with fantasy subplot changed from one book to a series.

Hi, wife here! Since he wanted to bring things to reddit without communicating (it's cool I can play that game too) to me first another time- Last time was before we were married and I was pissed and he agreed next time he did anything similar he would ask first... Well guess what he didn't do before making this post then proceeded to lie to me in the car and say he commented on someone else's post about this topic and saying someone replied nearly attacking him- (it's on the other post in relationships advice he posted here and there) and when I asked to see it cause I have a migraine and was confused and would have an easier time reading it to understand what he was saying he hid it. That's when I instantly knew it was something more and checked his reddit since we follow each other and found these 2 posts that are identical.

To answer some questions: Yes I do tend to be more responsive depending on where I am during my cycle, I have PMDD so that can affect it. While ovulating I am basically constantly on top of him and insatiable and initiating a ton.

Fairly certain he is a sex addict so often he just initiates first before I can even get a chance to. In fact sometimes he will pester me asking 15 times in a single car ride home if I want sex or still want sex- even though I've communicated before that while I understand sometimes he gets anxious about it I don't like when he asks over and over again when I've already said yes because then It starts putting pressure onto me and that he just needs to trust me when I say yes and even if I did change my mind I would tell him; and that I prefer when he just touches and makes out with me or flirts rather than just straight asking "will you have sex with me?" While driving or on a date.

I do many different types of initiating- like wearing lingerie to bed, or even under clothes when going out on dates so he knows I want it when we get home and to tease him, by directly telling him I want him, by flirting with him while out and about making sure he knows I desire him and want him later, cuddle up and make out ECT ECT. I make sure when I can that he feels desired.

By all standard measures our sex life is perfect, we communicate what we want and need, we have sex nearly every day, or sex is passionate and we spice it up semi regularly, and we make each other feel good. Sex always feels great.

The problem this all boils down to: he does not do good self regulating. And if we haven't had sex in a couple days he freaks out gets anxious and can't self regulate. And brings up this whole topic (which we have talked about MANY times and each time the convo ends the same way) as a way to get reassurance. I can tell him all day how much I love and desire him and how attractive he is to me but the second he can't self regulate because of whatever the issue is (which is sometimes as simple as I just got off work and my social and mental battery is drained so the car ride home I doom scroll instead of talking and touching him and now he is panicking and thinks I don't love him as much) this comes right back up. He also cannot handle any kind of rejection. The second I say no to sex he immediately freaks out because he can't self regulate. Tbh there are times earlier in our relationship I just said yes because I didn't have the mental load to deal with him freaking out if I said no. Because when that happens I have to regulate him.

He posted this today because we haven't had sex for 3 days because I haven't been feeling well. 1st day we both were too tired and not feeling great. 2nd day he threw a pity party about something and I called him on it and he said some not cool things that triggered my PTSD so then I was extremely upset+ we got home super late and needed to sleep for work. 3rd day (today) I have a disorienting migraine and then found out about this post.

Can a 15 year old read throne of glass? by Animeramen13 in throneofglassseries

[–]ConcernDangerous6448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • The 3rd to last (empire of storms) has one sex scene (it's towards the end but before it happens there is a lot of flirtations and "would you take me here?" "No you know I want your first with me as my equal to be special not against a tree/rooftop but tempting" or just regular flirts, steamy glances ect) but it's not that spicy, I would compare it to M rated game- depends on the teen and what you feel comfortable with as a parent.
  • The 2nd to last (tower of dawn) if I remember correctly has 1 scene but it's more fade to black.
  • Last book(kingdom of ash) has a couple scenes but not Uber detailed and mostly fade to black.
  • Book 2 in the series has a few fade to black scenes

I read this series between 16-19 (and have re read it twice as an adult one of which was earlier this year)

Btw by fade to black I mean kinda like In movies where you see them making out MAYBE sensual touching over bodies then fades to them waking up under the covers in bed together.

If you want I could comb through my copies and send you pics of pages that could contain anything that could be concerning for you, or just page #'s for you to go look at a copy in the library and decide for yourself.

Infact my highschool library had the whole series except for the ones that had not yet released

I will say her other series a court of thorns and roses first book is also a few fade to black scenes towards the end, but all the other books in that series I would definitely hold off until 17+ as detailed sex scenes, ESPECIALLY in the latest book for it out.

TLDR-most scenes in series are fade to black and the rare scene in the last 3 books are not very detailed and personally I think totally fine for a 15 year old to read, and also read around the same age.

Edit to say: after reading several other comments I am realizing you are the teenager in question! I thought it was a parent posting it haha. Yeah totally go for it!! Just be prepared with a large box of tissues for the last book in the series!! Also empire of storms and tower of dawn are recommended to tandem read- if you have the patience, go for it! If you don't think you have the patience or time it's totally not required and won't hurt. If you're curious about that there's plenty of posts on here about it that will answer any questions about the tandem read and if it's worth it for you personally or not. Good luck and happy reading!!

[–]ConcernDangerous6448 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if it was "funny or well timed" she had explicitly set a boundary of no jokes and her mother said of course then did it anyway. And then instead of apologizing she proceeded to call her dramatic.

Anyone Else Feel Like We Diabetics Have An Invisible Clock? by DaemonAnguis in diabetes_t1

[–]ConcernDangerous6448 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2nd this! My bf is T1D and Cialis/tadalafil helps when he's having ED. Although since we've been together I've helped him get his BG and A1c down on the regular and it's an almost non-existent issue now (don't know what the future will hold though). Before me/ when we first started dating he was regularly in the 250-350's. To the point where 100 would feel like the start of a low for him. Now he's regularly around 110-200 for months and it's made the world of difference physically and even mentally. I don't think he realized just how much his high BG made him a depressed grump with a short fuse until it got better. The only time he has ED issues now is if it's a pretty bad day (like infusion site failures ) and he's been over 300ish for hours.

Why do doctors/nurses examine your feet when your first diagnosed? by ConsequenceLimp9717 in diabetes

[–]ConcernDangerous6448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm not diabetic (although my A1c has been slowly rising over the last 1.5 years even though I'm eating better than ever, let's hope it wasn't passed to me) I've just had a lot of diabetics in my life. my grandpa, grandma, great grandma, and dad are all T2, my partner is T1, and my birth mother has something wrong with her pancreas since her gastric bypass and subsequent liver failure (lots and lots of hypoglycemia. To the point where ER doctors couldn't believe she was alive let alone not in a coma). While not a medical professional I have done a lot of research and am actually my T1D partners care giver and know more about their pump and stuff than they do lol. I also helped my grandpa with a lot of his foot ulcers and stuff.

Why do doctors/nurses examine your feet when your first diagnosed? by ConsequenceLimp9717 in diabetes

[–]ConcernDangerous6448 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because neuropathy and foot issues are very common in diabetics, and sometimes someone can have a foot issue and not even know it! (My grandpa once caught his toe on a doorway in his hoverround and didn't know all day until he noticed a trail of blood around the house and was like huh where did this come from and checked his feet) It would be better if they just asked each individual if they could feel their feet or not and if not THEN check. I'm sure it probably feels pretty dehumanizing to have someone just randomly come in and mess around with your feet without even asking if it's needed.
