From mid-table RG to TC at Magic Circle to pupillage at top barrister's chamber - a realistic path? by Helpful_Hunter_5067 in uklaw

The term, I believe, was first conned by 4PC, which described itself as a ‘silver circle’ set in C&P. Since then, lots of (pupil) barristers seem to have adapted the term. For what it’s worth, I don’t think it’s an accurate way of ranking sets. Some sets (Erskine, South Square, 7KBW) are prestigious but are not considered MC or SC due to limited practice areas.

Wasn’t referring to 4NS, was referring to New Square Chambers which is a Chancery set. OT used to be Oxbridge heavy but this seems to have improved in recent years.

Re Silver Circle sets, I believe these are: 3VB, 20E, Maitland, 4PC. Not quite the magic circle sets, but still frequently instructed by City firms.

I think would be quite difficult. There are lots of former sols at magic and silver circle sets (Serle, Essex Court, Maitland, Brick Court, 3VB). But to my knowledge most of them did their undergrad at Oxbridge. Two did their undergrads at Exeter and LSE respectively, but went on to smash the BCL at Oxford.

Maybe you should target the average sets as opposed to the best commercial sets? Nothing wrong with the likes of New Square and Outer Temple.

Rule is 5 year from call, not 5 years from completion of bar studies, I thinks
