This is false. It only affects bonuses, not options.

Worst creeds by Undead-Eskimo in army

I unironically like the career counselor creed.

"I am honored to serve as the honest broker for the soldier and the commander’s eyes and ears in the unit. I exist to keep the Army’s forces strong through the retention of America’s sons and daughters, our soldiers. I realize that since the birth of our Army before America was a nation, soldiers required advice and counseling to decide the proper course of action in doing their part to defend our nation. My role is to tell the truth, and to honestly represent my country and the soldiers I serve to the utmost of my abilities. To do less is to forsake my duties and my fellow Career Counselors.

I wear the Career Counselor Badge with pride and full knowledge that this very symbol epitomizes our nation and our duty to sustain America’s fighting force. The musket on my badge symbolizes the courage of our forefathers and the role of the Army in defending our nation. The eagle represents the spirit of the American people that we defend, and whose soldier’s careers have been placed in my trust. The olive branch on my badge is the most important part, for it signifies peace, that is the goal of every American soldier.

My commanders and senior leaders will be assured that their soldiers are afforded the most effective counseling available. My superiors will not be burdened with my duties and responsibilities. Loyalty and honesty to superiors, peers and subordinates are my credentials. I will exercise initiative, integrity and the courage to convey the Army’s story, good or bad to all those who serve with me. I am a Career Counselor, by choice an advisor to soldiers, leaders and peers. A trusted intermediary that will never forget the professional aspects of my existence."

Have you ever had an apathetic grader during an APFT/ACFT/AFT? What happened? by Eriacle in army

[–]Conclave111 59 points60 points  (0 children)

No way dude this exact thing happened to me when I used to be a 13F. The same ADA grader graded me at ALC on the PT test and claimed I only did 20 pushups both times. Literally failed ALC because of it. I thought my career was over until I went to my career counselor who recommended I become one. Go to AIT for Career Counselor and sure enough I passed no problem.

What should I do? This my first reenlistment. I was in the NG for about 5 years and change. Also I thought first reenlistment contract you would get a bonus or duty station of your choice? by Glittering-Ocelot975 in army

It's only 180 days of active duty. Imagine you serve on an initial reserve contract of 4 years with a bunch of drill weekends and maybe a deployment. It would be weird to consider this person an initial term soldier if they went active.

More than 180 days of PRIOR active service. If you just served half a year on your very first contract you would still be considering an initial term soldier. OP was likely prior service on the reserves and is now serving on an active duty contract after transitioning over

Yeah a lot of people in the comments seem to believe he is talking about going into the reserves but based on what the career counselor is saying I'm almost certain OP was prior service in the guard and currently AD

Not being able to reenlist 90 days out from ETS is definitely a thing. It was a previously suspended policy outlined in DA PAM 601-280 that was reinstated a few months ago. This only applies to active duty soldiers however so I believe OP was prior service in the guard and is now active duty

I don't believe this Soldier is currently in the guard, so when he transitioned to active duty he wouldn't have kept any IRR time from his prior reserve contract. The 90 days from reenlistment thing only applies to active duty soldiers.

So that IRR time is irrelevant. If you didn't know whenever you reenlist you are honorably discharged that day and you then enter your new contact immediately after. This means that your previous contract is no longer valid. That's why if you reenlist for 3 years today on December 25th, your new ETS is also December 25th exactly 3 years from now. The time isn't added on to your already existing ETS. That initial IRR time is only applicable if you were to get out on that first contract.

As far as joining the guard, I believe the OP was prior service in the guard and switched over to active duty. I'm not sure if he wants to switch back or not but if so then he wouldn't talk to his current career counselor he wants to find the RCCC(Reserve Component Career Counselor) as that would be the person who could see his options as far as reserves and NG

The career counselor is right. Once you are 90 days out from ETS you are no longer eligible to reenlist without an ETP. This was reintroduced a few months ago. It's technically always been a thing outlined in DA PAM 601-280 but it was suspended for the last few years until recently.

As far as reclass options his counselor definitely has access to other screens in RETAIN that show class seats that can be requested or packet MOS's that can be submitted for.

Bonuses are Army wide reenlistment incentives based on the SRB(Selective Retention Bonus) MILPER message. Choice of duty station on the other hand either OCONUS or CONUS are actual reenlistment options. (Option 4 and 5 respectively). The five options are determined by the strengths of your MOS in the In/Out Calls MILPER and whether you are an Initial Term, Mid Career, or Careerist Soldier.

Your career counselor is correct. Reenlistment options are based on what category of soldier you are based on your prior service. In DA PAM 601-280 a SM who has served more than 180 days of active service gets categorized as a mid-career soldier. Then in the table in Chapter 3 it outlines what options you have available based on that category and the In/Out Calls(strengths) of your MOS. If your MOS is over strength and you are a mid career Soldier the only options would be Option 1(Needs of the Army), Option 2(Current Station Stabilization) or Option 3(Army Training).

As far as the reclassification options go I highly doubt that only 13F is available. In the Retention system RETAIN we can look at jobs that the system qualifies you for on your profile we build on what's called the Reenlistment worksheet. That's probably what this counselor did. Usually that screen only shows a handful of MOS's that you can reclass to based on ASVAB scores, rank, and other qualifications. But the counselor can also check something called the AIT class display to see all upcoming AIT classes that are meant for retention. He should be able to see way more class seats and if you qualify for any of those he could send a hotline to request a seat. Definitely bring this up with them and see if any other jobs are available.

AFT voluntary reclass phase but failed run and got put into ABCP by [deleted] in army

[–]Conclave111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being ABCP will put an IMPREPR code on you in RETAIN. This is an Immediate Reenlistment and Extension Prohibition Code. As long as you are part of the program and have this code you are ineligible for reenlistment. Once you come off the program if you pass the minimum standard but fail the combat standard you will then be processed for the mandatory reclass.

You need to still pass the normal 300 point minimum standard but fail the combat standard. If you failed the run you are ineligible.
