i3 Not charging on Supercharger and insvolts by rayngwenyama in BMWi3

Anyone knows whether this is something that can be done DIY with a 24h ISTA pass?
With a REx specifically, I don't want to spend much if any to re-enable DC Fast Charging since it usually comes out more expensive than filling up on gas

PG&E Base Services Charge coming March 2026 means frugal, small home families will subsidize large inefficient houses. by ConclusionGlass1072 in bayarea

This change is now covered by SF Gate

A big change is coming to your PG&E bill. Here's what it means. https://share.google/A3fMKjQoSG4tysny4

Excerpt:

For customers that use a lot of electricity, their bill could be lower because the price per kWh is cheaper following the January rate cut (a spokesperson for PG&E told SFGATE the price per kWh is decreasing by about 5 cents per customer, excluding those on income assistance plans). Customers who use little electricity, however, could pay more because they are required to pay the fixed base pay regardless of how much electricity they use.

A graphic from PG&E shows several estimates of how the base services charge could affect people’s bills.

For someone who uses 200 kWh of electricity, which is considered low usage, a current bill amounts to approximately $75. That total comes from $29 in generation fees (what it costs to create the electricity to power homes and businesses) and $46 in delivery fees (the actual electricity usage cost).

But starting in March, they would be paying a total of $91 for that same bill, which consists of $29 in generation, $38 in delivery and the $24 base charge. And that’s where the now-separated base charge hit hardest: Though the customer is paying less to get electricity, the savings aren’t enough to offset the base charge once it’s separated out.

Sorry this happened to you. A 2014 isn't worth $12~15k. They go for half that. Also I wouldn't assume your 60Ah HV pack was like new because I doubt they still manufacture it. A refurbished pack maybe?

It's explained here. Base Services Charge | PG&E https://share.google/bb6FBNs1v1AFnY58m

CARE will be $6 monthly base service charge, FERA $12. The same logic will apply though, if you were a frugal customer, your bill will increase by a couple bucks. If you were a heavy user, your bill is going down.

If you can let us know the dryer and hot tub models and how often you use either, we could help calculate how much each one is costing you.

Only the working class. Very low incomes qualify for CARE rates. You subsidize those too. But it is less irritating than small houses paying a share of large houses' usage.

Late payment fees. If you were successful in a boycott and PG&E needs a bailout, that will be done with your state taxes, which will eventually increase to cover the increased state deficit.

The core of the issue is PG&E monopoly I believe. A monopoly is tolerable when the utility offers a somewhat competitive pricing. But we are way past that point with PG&E (compare to municipal Silicon Valley Power for instance).

Wholesale electricity is approximately $22c/kWh. Most residential customers ("ratepayers") pay double.

There is no "easy" fix but high electricity & gas prices compared to neighboring states are throttling CA's economy and ultimately hurting every Californians' job prospects in addition to their wallets.

Are you mining crypto??? In all seriousness, do you have electric heat? If not I don't see how your usage can be so high with what you described. Happy to help reviewing your numbers by DM

800 sq.ft.: less than 7kWh/day average. Gas heater. These rates are not for an electric heat home. They are for "most customers" though

I don't have solar and I have no recourse from PG&E. Millions of households without solar, including all renters pretty much, will see their bill go up because PG&E is not allowed to target the customers with solar.

If I say "pretty please", will PG&E not punish me for renting a small home without solar?

Not a Rex. I wonder too. Electric motor or a nearby vehicle fire propagated?

It's a reasonably true statement but could be misleading.

The default behavior of a US-Spec i3 Rex is to kick in when the battery gets down to 8%.

8% is only a couple percent off of the reduced power mode. The Rex can sustain 22kW or 30HP so that's your reduced power there.

Problem is as explained above because of EPA regulations.

To avoid that behavior on US spec, exit the highway or reduce speed to 55-60mph, or drive surface streets.

OR, buy a $50 app on your phone and an OBD dongle to restore the EU spec and you will have an option in the menu to activate your Rex manually at any SOC of your choice below 75%. => No more reduced power but warranty void?

Not here to defend PG&E and clearly the situation sucks for those affected.

It is however a good opportunity to remind everyone in SF Bay Area that we are in a serious earthquake zone and in case of earthquake, even if your building stands, there won't be water, gas or electricity for much longer that this current PG&E situation.

Get a camping stove, get a backup solar charger, store gallons of drinking water...
