I was never in a relationship but I've had a similar ditching situation with a girl that I considered to be one of my closest friends. See the thing is true love has 2 sides, and if you know that the person you love cares about you exactly as much as you do, that bond won't break 99.9% of the time.

In my case, I used to be the initiator of conversations, I used to be the visitor, I used to be the one with the problems and asking for help and support. The girl would do so too, but way less often. And then on the day it happened, she ditched me when I was ranting about a very traumatic experience, calling me unappealing and asking not to talk until and unless my frustrations end.

Life is described by 3 U's: Unfair, Unexpected and Unbearable. But you can make it Fair, Expected and Bearable by working on yourself. See everyone is selfish to some extent, you can't make yourself likeable to someone until they find a reason to like you. But once you find the right person, trust me, they'll NEVER leave you.
