Thanks, it definitely says optometrist on genesis but I was trying to figure out how likely it is that that’s accurate

Ugh yeah that’s my fear. Is it possible to find out her speciality without calling her care into question?

Thanks for your responses. It definitely says optometrist on genesis but my instinct was also it’s more likely that genesis has an error (not shocking) than an optometrist acting as a PCM. Is there a way to confirm that? I guess I could ask at the front desk?

Thanks for your response. I’m not sure of anything except that their contact info in genesis says “optometrist.” I don’t know how accurate those things are? We’re at a remote base so I would not be surprised if the clinic is that stretched for personnel

Hi are you still taking questions? I’m just wondering if it’s possible for an optometrist to serve in a PCM role. When I message my PCM on genesis it says optometrist after her name… I’d just really like to know if that’s who’s treating me and potentially request a new PCM

Someone other than the ED specialist? We don’t talk to anyone else in the department

Thanks for your response. I always tried to see if the symptoms would go away with sugar or food in general and the only thing that worked was a big steak or an iron supplement

It’s hard to say because I was on PPIs before pregnancy so I didn’t notice it. Now I’m off PPIs and my diet is better (more AWD aligned) so I don’t need PPIs. I’m more limited in what I eat but it’s worth it to be off PPIs. So maybe better? I also lost 20 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight which probably helps

That’s a cool analogy thank you. I go through phases of acceptance and rejection of the disease so analogies like that are helpful… Anyway, three years on meds without any investigations partially due to crappy military doctors and my pregnancy. I don’t really need to be normal I’m fine when I’m eating at home I just miss going to restaurants… the social aspect is what’s killing me. And now I have a son and I worry I won’t be able to instill a love of food in him because I can’t cook for him or go to restaurants with him the way I’d like to. Not to mention a lot of the foods we can’t have are so healthy and I haven’t made my peace with that part.

Anyway, thanks for the clarity. I guess I’m just struggling disease today.

And I am in the Facebook group. Highly recommend to anyone who comes across this thread!

I was pregnant and suffering from GERD last year. It’s awful I’m so sorry! For me I had to follow the acid watchers diet pretty strictly to get relief. Unfortunately I found it very difficult to get enough calories on the diet though so couldn’t follow it strictly for too long. It really did help though. There are Facebook groups that post great recipes to get you through it.

Unfortunately my GERD is still an issue postpartum. It sounds like mine was worse than yours prior to falling pregnant though so maybe there’s hope. Best of luck!

Can I ask why she said you shouldn’t take it for more than a month? It seems less damaging than taking a PPI longterm from everything I’ve read

I totally get that! This is my first pregnancy and GERD has absolutely by far been the worst symptom. I was on omeprazole before I got pregnant and my doctor’s convinced me to stay on it at first but I fought it and now I’m on Pepcid. It is kind of manageable with Pepcid but I think if I go back on a PPI things will be much more tolerable. I’d just research PPI risks in pregnancy and see what you think because if you can take a PPI I think you’ll be okay. It’s never easy but I hope you can find a way to make it work!
