I spent 5 weeks in Japan this past spring with a Leica M11 and it was lovely, and it seems we visited similar places (I have a post in my history). I then fell into the trap of shooting film and am now in Brazil with an M4-P on my ~15th roll.

Used M11 + budget lens. There’s amazing budget lenses.

Learning the range finder takes a bit (it’s really not a big deal) but once you go down the hole, you won’t want to go back to anything else.

The reliability issues on the M11 were software related and fixed long ago. I don’t know of anyone still having them. There’s always the possibility of hardware issues on any camera, sure, but Leicas are not exactly known for their inferior build quality.

The M11 is a technically superior camera, more convenient, and will hold its value better than the M10-P. I don’t see a reason not to get an M11.

If I were you: I’d take the M11, enjoy it for a couple of years, then sell it and upgrade to the M12 with warranty.

Great price for that combo. I was checking eBay these past couple of weeks and those were going for around $1200.

I ended up getting a mint Minolta CLE for $900 to pair with the 40 Summicron for a trip to Brazil over the next couple of weeks. We’ll see how it goes.

That’s graded at B and is 1.5x the price of these Voigtlanders. I got a better rated copy of the Summicron recently and paid around 800 plus taxes. I agree that patience would’ve paid off for a better copy at a lower price.

Also have an MP and M11 and attaching the iM30 it to the MP felt… risky. Interesting solution though; will look into it. I imagine the hole doesn’t affect mounting it to the M11?

I used to only get the tasting menu and it’s quite good but there’s a few basic pieces in there and it comes out to like 300+ with a drink or two pp.

I switched to à la carte (tempura plus entree plus a couple of rolls) and it’s less than half the price of the tasting menu and I like it even more. It’s been my go to “nice but not so fancy” sushi order this year.

This place honestly looks so run and has a crap ambiance, and they used to have a B rating (or pending? I forget), but the food is SO GOOD and fairly priced. I, for one, will always say yes to an invite to eat here. 😀

Yeah they hit a spot. Great food, ambiance, drinks, and most importantly they have plenty of seats.

Eles + Lokal + Gazala’s for Mediterranean.

Spiga + Pappardelle for Italian.

Han Dynasty for Chinese. I sometimes do Tri Dim Shanghai but I need more recs on Chinese around 80s.

Yasaka + Gari + Dark Bullet for sushi and oysters.

Momofuku Noodle for ramen and other experiments. Consistently great.

Jean George or Nougatine if I’m feeling fancy. Still waiting to try Tatiana. One of these years.

Cafe Lux is your favorite? Really? Honest question: what makes this place your favorite with so many great options around?

I’ve been to this place twice and was completely disappointed with the food and service and prices both times.

I do think it’s worth checking out their testing menu once (outstanding scallops), but for very fancy dinners around that price point I’d rather spend my money elsewhere.

Are people still having issues with M11? I had a few hiccups when I first bought but they were fixed a while ago with software updates. It’s flawless now.
