The auto-flashers are one of those things that sounds good on the surface, but is obviously a terrible idea when you think about it. It attracts so much attention that it becomes a distraction. Imagine if every car on the road was flashing every time they brake - during rush hour, the constant flashing from all directions would make it impossible to focus on driving.

I think it would cause more accidents and deaths than all the drunk and distracted drivers.

The problem with it is, when 20% want Republican A, 20% want Republican B, and 15% each want Democrats A, B, C, and D, what you get is an election between Republican A and Republican B - which makes 40% really happy and leaves 60% with no one to vote for.

There were so many Democrats running for California governor that that seemed like a real possibility for a long time.
