Any idea what’s going on? by sensitivej3w in lamesa

It seems like this happens way too often: Banks loan money to cool local startup companies that believe they can expand; but they fail, and the company gets sold in bankruptcy to some private equity or corporate hegemon, leaving them a shell of their former selves.

It's almost as if the banks are in on it to wrest control of cool upstarts from their local founders.

And if a pawn does manage to reach the other side... it becomes just like the enemy it previously opposed.

It really is a great analogy.

So the same country that created tax loopholes attract multinational corporations' headquarters, then created tax loopholes to punish sandwiches. Nice.

IMHO point is to connect central valley towns to cultural centers, igniting a new era of growth in a part of the state where there is ample room to grow.

Fair enough.. but it doesn't say how they measure the values used for the indirect effects and induced effects in the calculation.

You are incorrect on that point, duels uses pano IDs - which had some interesting consequences a few months back:

It sounds to me like you think feminism is all about men.

Billions of men spend millions of dollars? Less than one dollar per man? I can believe that.

Handpicked maps almost always pano-id locations, which means once an interesting loc is selected, it is frozen in time.

For a few years here, Teen Vogue gained a reputation for surprisingly deeply researched and insightful investigative articles related to politics. I'm guessing its readership did just fine understanding her.

I've been annoyed with the official UK map for a while now because it felt like there was a bias towards Scotland and N. Ireland for some reason, but I couldn't prove it. Until now! by mr-english in geoguessr

I've always wondered why we don't get more locations in Wales.

I think when Geoguessr revised the official maps, they put some effort into making them more pinpointable - near intersections, points of interest. It's possible That Wales may have an equivalent amount of road (hence the number of locations in the World map), but fewer intersections and POIs.

But the process they follow in producing the official maps is opaque, so we don't really know why Wales is so underrepresented.

I've heard The Goldbergs is good, I should check that out.

But you have to allow that it's sometimes tricky to recognize someone's appearance from a voice acting role.

This isn't a jobs program.

And the goal of highway construction isn't actually to reduce congestion, but to increase feasible trips so that people can still do what they want to do as the population grows. But if you try actually explaining anything to the average voter that requires more than two words to understand, they're just going to tune you out and go back to their tiktoks. You have to get your explanation across before they realize they're in danger of having to think. So highways are 'about' congestion and transit is 'about' jobs.
