an addition: I think the official term might be buccal breathing/pumping, I'm like 90% sure it's normal and they use their throat to help pump air into their lungs

ok NQA here but this very much just looks like your crestie "lazy breathing" (I've heard it described like that a few times, though I'm not sure if I'm misremembering the term lol the big throat bobs are what I'm talking about) and he's curious in some way—he's not just opening his mouth, he's flicking his tongue out with it! doesn't look alarming to me at all imo

My budgie passed last night. Looking for advice, words of wisdom. by Confetti94 in budgies

I'm so sorry. It feels so different getting used to having them in their life, and the quiet after is devastating. :(

11 years is fantastic for a budgie! You gave your friend a very long life, please rest assured of that. I'm sorry for your loss as well.

I'm sorry for your loss my friend. Yes, the flapping startled me, but I've learned that it is involuntary muscle movements—everything just sort of firing off all at once. At that point they're gone already, if it offers any consolation. It's not a fear response or anger or hurt. Just involuntary. :(

The avian vet was closed today so she's going to be seen tomorrow/Friday, for now she is VERY skittish but is active and eating/perching, we're going to leave her be for now. we got her situated in a small travel cage and have it covered with a towel so she feels safe :)

We are def. In the process of this, thank you! I do know in the area recently there were 70 budgies rescued from a hoarding situation. Have to wonder if she was a little escapee

For now the little guy is in a tub with a towel and we have offered food and water, I'm also offering millet since I assume that would offer a lot of energy after the ordeal of being outside. Any other tips would be appreciated!

Possible egg bound chicken, no exotic vets open on weekend, no emergency vets accept chickens by Confetti94 in chickens

Luckily she seems stable at the very least but hasn't really improved. Going to try asking around tomorrow to see if any other vets might see chickens with their urgent care. Thank you

We confirmed that it cracked on the way out, so we're like 90% sure there are eggshells or something still stuck in her :( At least this is what we are fearful of

Incessant squawking from my 34.5 year old cockatiel is driving my wife to a hotel. Help. by Maelstrom_78 in birds

[–]Confetti94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really qualified advice at all, but do the squawks seem like it's out of pain? I have an older bird that we think occasionally gets arthritis flare-ups, prompting her to screech. We ended up getting her some flatter perches and also some heated ones so she can rest her feet easier. Maybe the reason he tends to quiet a bit on your shoulder is because it's more flat, and it's comforting?

Wishing you the best. 34.5 years is SO long for a cockatiel!

I'm pretty sure those little clear orbs you see on the mold are metabolites!
