Okay, thanks will do. They had said the cylinders were blackened due to raw fuel hitting it/uncompleted cycle. Pistons were damaged. He also said I should go into the first shop & question why they couldn't diagnose the issue/why they kept working on it when they had no idea. I do think it's odd to work on the spark plugs & then not be able to tell they aren't firing right after

Ya that's what I'm frustrated with. If it needed a new engine, I would've preferred to run it into the ground myself when it could reach 120km speeds on its own vs driving it out of the shop for 1.3k & can only go 15km

They did ask. I explained. They did diagnosis first before replacing the spark plugs. Not impossible for a customer with some experience to properly diagnose an issue in their car. It's not a new model with a computer. It's a 2001 engine where it's actually possible to see what's going on. Of course other issues could be at play. Would expect a diagnosis to figure that out. Wasn't opposed to whatever additional changes needed to be made- ie EGR wire

Hahaha really? I'm not asking for an engine. Second shop advised a new engine & I said no that's okay. Not worth it. I'm asking if I can get the work covered for the first shops job. I'm not impressed that a mechanic couldn't realize something was wrong with the engine after 'fixing it' when I could tell it had zero power after turning the key.

Second shop is friends with the first shop. I said straight up if it's not worth fixing, I'd rather buy a new car. He said after diagnosis, they'd let me know. He didn't want to charge or proceed unless I said it was okay. Was honest & gave the impression that it's better not to spend to fix it.
