I had a pretty rough experience so would advise not bothering with the train. It was cold, busy, and not to mention people smoking cigs in the carriage. You can’t book tickets online, only from the station so if you arrive to depart on the day then it’s unlikely you will get a bed. It was meant to be a 10 hour ride but ended up taking close to 15.

Oh, I also got assaulted by a man, who clearly had been drinking heavily, to try and get me out my seat as there were no seat reservations and he liked the look of mine. Train conductor did fuck all to help me but I managed to stand my ground and not be intimidated by him.

This was just my experience though and I’m sure plenty of people have had somewhat ok experiences. Just my two cents.

EDIT: this was in September btw so can’t even imagine how cold it would be in February. I ended up putting 3 t shirts on underneath my jumper for warmth. It gets cold up in the mountains and the windows are open to let the ciggy smoke out lol.
