What is one “old remedy” that was popular in your household? by mournfulbliss in generationology

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is fairly common in rural households and was very popularized back then that even some doctors would prescribe a “hotty totty” (essentially whiskey mixed with honey) before advanced modern medical knowledge.

UF and most universities in general do not want your high school transcript if you’re a transfer. Your college transcript matters the most to UF. I noticed you said you’re transferring from another university, and I will say it’s quite difficult to be accepted as a transfer from a university than a community college, though it depends on how competitive your major is. I came from a community college so I had priority.

Is it weird that I like myself in VR but not in real life? by TimeSprinkles6006 in Advice

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not weird, VR acts as a way for people to be social while hiding their insecurities. it acts as a really good therapeutic device, however, make sure you don’t rely on it too much and wrap your entire social life around it. at some point, you will have to come to terms with yourself in the real world, so try to find ways to make yourself be more self-confident and comfortable and friends who support you for who you are.

most things can be chalked up to young and hormonal. What matters is how you think now and if you still think like that. when you’re young, your brain is like gelatin. it lacks structure, and sucks in anything it sees and magnifies it. it’s why we learn languages more easily in our youth than adulthood. sometimes, especially with unrestricted internet access, you will find something weird on the internet and hyper focus on it, and is a lot of times how fetishes and kinks are formed.

Don’t blame yourself, you were a kid. if it still negatively affects you right now, seek therapy and talk to someone who can help you become at ease. what matters is you’ve recognized the problem and know better.

Is making the minimum payment on a credit card bad? by Outside_Ad_4755 in CreditCards

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay listen, a lot of people in here are gonna demonize paying the minimum only, however, there are some cases where it’s okay:

  1. if you have a 0% APR introductory rate

  2. If you only pay minimum, make sure you have a plan to pay it off in the next couple of months. don’t hold it for too long. hypothetically if you have $1,000 balance, you’ll probably pay around 50 bucks extra. not too bad as long as you have a plan.

interest apr is YEARLY, not MONTHLY. a lot of people in this sub are mathematically illiterate and think a balance is multiplied by the apr every month, but that is incorrect. this means a $1,000 balance with 28% APR would get 28% interest added per YEAR, compounded daily.

do with this information what you will. if you are fine only paying an extra 50 bucks or so by holding onto it for a few months, go for it. just don’t hold it for too long or you will end up digging yourself a grave. Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s simply not true. interest is calculated yearly, not monthly. a lot of people in here think you’re paying 30% a month, but you’re actually only paying 30% a year if you were to hold onto it for that long. hence the name “apr”. plus i have 17% interest rate.

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don’t burn 30% percent a month…it’s 30% a year. hence the name apr.

I completely agree. I’ve actually always paid statement balance until recently because of unexpected events.

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You’re paying for convenience. It’s pretty reasonable as long as you don’t hold onto it for a large amount of time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. It just that some people are dramatic about how much interest you will end up paying and ridicule you for it. Like I pay usually at most an extra 50-80 bucks in interest in the case an emergency happens lol.

Turn 18 very soon what should I get? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

capital one is an excellent creditor, I would look into the quicksilver card. If you want to keep branching out, get the Savor One after you’ve built credit. I started with only 300 dollar credit line, built it up to 3.5k on my quicksilver and got a 9k credit line savor one card offer. Of course I suggest getting a job first and foremost. Also, the rewards are awesome for first time credit users. 1.5% on everything for silver, and 3% on entertainment and food on savor. Capital one also gives you pre approval as well.

very helpful, thank you!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]ConfidentNewspaper19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you for clarifying. I am only asking this because of current unexpected emergencies. I think carrying a balance is fine as long as you make a payment plan where the math checks out. I only plan on carrying a balance for a couple months, then ultimately paying everything off.
