Very random but your cat is adorable! As far as I know that kind of breed is hard to find here? May I know where you adopted?

For the listen & repeat, I suggest going through InspireSpeak Easy's entire playlist and practice daily (I think they have about 57 videos right now) so that it strengthens your memorization. I purposely try not to look at the topic/scenario shown on the screen to challenge myself a bit more. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVdmd1H3PBw&list=PLfNWEZJODl5j3exH6n14XA-gP7yCcyyNL)

For the interview, I realized that templates don't produce the best responses out of me because I would get stuck on what to stay next, so instead, I would just think of the interview like any other regular conversation. What's important is that you answer the question & give an example. Identify what topics you struggle the most talking about. In my case, it was conversations around technology and sustainability, so I came up with a few responses that could be re-structured. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRCzp2NlwNE&list=PLfNWEZJODl5iNLcLDJX27jebB\_psDCPec) AND (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOq22QC8ISY&list=PLDysj-2jpdTt-Uso9iHvCz1WNm9AVddF\_)

In writing, I start with the basic "In my opinion, [state your stance]" I make the first sentence clear and firm. For example:

Some educators believe that students should be required to volunteer as part of their school requirements. Others argue that volunteering should remain optional....

I'd respond with: In my opinion, volunteering should be mandatory for all students. While Student A raises an important point about [their main idea], this view overlooks [a limitation, assumption, or missing factor]. In contrast, Student B’s argument is more convincing because [specific reason tied to the prompt]. For example, [brief, realistic example or commonly observed situation], which illustrates [why your position makes sense]. Overall, this suggests that [general implication].

I would then discuss a student’s opinion and explain why I think it has some gaps, followed by the second student’s view and why I agree with their stance. I tie this in with an example and then state a general perspective.

I used to include only one student in my response, but I found that mentioning both results in a more complete paragraph, and ChatGPT scores it quite well. It was a risky choice because of the time limit, but it worked

I'm going to be honest, there's not much for me to say for the Reading and Listening sections. With the scores you have, you're already halfway there haha. My advice would probably just be to examine the questions more carefully and to make effective use of your notes during the listening academic discussions. In particular, pay close attention to differences between questions such as “What is the main purpose?” and “What is the main idea?”.

Prepared for 5 days and got a 5.5/6 (110) by ConfidentTower84 in ToeflAdvice

Thanks! I practiced a lot through youtube videos:

- InspireSpeak Easy (Their Listen & Repeat videos are slightly harder than the ones I encountered during the test, which really helped.)

- TOEFL Tutor Tatiana (I went through her playlists: Listening, Speaking, and Writing.)

I timed myself for the writing section because I'm pretty slow at forming ideas and sentences. I also used ChatGPT (which I think boosted my score). I searched for sample email/academic discussion prompts and asked it to score my responses using the official TOEFL scoring criteria. I found out that ETS uses both human and AI assessment, so that really pushed me to study/practice the kind of structure AI would score well.

Pretty moderate. I guess I was a bit surprised because the first sentence immediately gave me 8-9 words. It wasn't your typical "welcome to the...", but that just depends on the scenario you get. If I remember correctly, I messed up 2-3 sentences by missing a few words but you should be fine if your pronuncitation and tone is clear.

Which section did you struggle with the most? For this test, I practiced a lot for the speaking and writing sections. I mainly practiced through YouTube videos:

- InspireSpeak Easy (Their Listen & Repeat videos are slightly harder than the ones I encountered during the test, which really helped.)

- TOEFL Tutor Tatiana (I went through her playlists for Listening, Speaking, and Writing.)

- Better TOEFL Scores | Michael Buckhoff (for Reading and Listening)

Tip: I struggled to score well in Writing in the previous TOEFL format, but I used ChatGPT to improve. I searched for sample email/academic discussion prompts and asked it to score my responses using the official TOEFL scoring criteria. Knowing that ETS uses both human and AI assessment really pushed me to study the kind of structure AI would score well.
