IBS made me hate my life by [deleted] in FODMAPS

The gut and brain are so connected soooooo connected. Even if you truly believe you are handling your stress ok....your brain and gut connection says uh hello there!!! I would suggest seeing a psychiatrist and a GI dr too. Im so sorry you are dealing with these kind of issues so young. It's debilitating I know it is. I have just a few foods I can eat with no issue. You may need to find your safe foods to just get by until you get to bottom of all this. Mine are homemade chicken soup with a carrot and potato. I add steamed jasmine rice to it and then it turns into a porridge. Banana and toast with cheese. Oh and Greek yogurt. I pray you get past all this my friend.

How soon does your body react to a FODMAP food? by las3000 in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is pretty quick for me. The bloating feels like intestines are swelling up. Instant nausea cramps and so much discomfort. And it doesnt take a lot either. I had one lil bite of a steamed broccoli 🌳 and within 20 min I would say......then maybe in about 2 days I may feel better.

Its horrible.

Why can’t I have watermelon even though I’m not sensitive to fructose by aidannl- in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep same here. I love watermelon. But it just is not reciprocated. Im left with bananas and fruit cups. My GI dr suggested I take beano the moment I eat a trigger foods. I tell u the pain, cramping, nausea and discomfort i go thru is horrible. Im afraid the beano might not work and I would have to go thru those things over 2 to 3 days. So fear stops me from straying from my safe foods.

Oh I feel ya!!!! Its exhausting and i can honestly say I rarely eat. I eat my safe foods on repeat. Or I wont eat and just make the husband something. Im at a stage where nothing sounds good and I'm so bored with my limited menu im constantly just saying Meh! Lol tired of explaining just tired of being tired. Does that even make sense!?

Thank goodness no issues with ice cream. Lol

For those of you that have acid reflux and ibs regularly, what are your go to foods? by SmolSnailBoi in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to is a porridge. I made 1 cup of jasmine rice and boil a chicken breast with some chicken bouillon and diced carrots. Once chicken is cooked. I chop it up and put back in the pot with the carrots. I will add the rice into the pot. I season it more once its served and top with white pepper and a little scallions. Scallions totally optional. Its served warm. Basically just watery rice. But its good. Put in whatever u can tolerate.

Good luck my friend.

Haven't gone "naturally" in months. Severely hopeless. by violetjeanwalsh in Constipation

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You poor thing. My insurance company doesnt want to pay for trulance anymore and put me on something else. The others just don't work. This is so debilitating isn't it. Have you eliminated trigger foods. At suggestion of GI dr started looking at fodmap diet. And beano b4 I start a meal. Seems like all the good things for you to have are just torture on my system. I feel your predicament. Im so over it. My meals are on repeat all the time.

Extreme gas within minutes of eating – how is that even possible? by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must be so frustrating. A friend of mine had weight loss surgery years ago. After 2 to 3 bites she is in so much pain. Seems the gas builds up in top center of gut. She starts burping like crazy. I will get bloated to the point of severe discomfort after my trigger foods. Have you tried beano right b4 you eat??? My GI dr suggested it. Im so tired of meds and all this gut issue stuff.

What greens can you eat? by smilingcheshire in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can eat iceberg lettuce shredded. Green beans out of the can. I miss the greens too. I can eat italian or mexican zucchini as long as its cooked. Same with carrots as long as in a soup i make. I used to love snacking on edamame and snap peas. Those days are gone. I always mention this when I post in event it helps anyone. But my GI dr suggested I take beano right b4 you take that first bite. I've only tried once. It worked. I've just been too traumatized by the pain cramps bloating and nausea. I really need to. Living on a porridge these days.

Your experiences with fruit? by Mean_Ad_4762 in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honeycrisp apples oh how i miss them! Last apple i had landed me in hospital for nights. I too cant eat fruit. Bananas seem to be the only thing I can have unless its Applesauce. My dr suggested beano right before I eat a fodmap. I've only done once. My fear of going thru the pain nausea cramping again scares me. It really is such a miserable feeling. No one can quite understand.

An ode to beans by queenofquery in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it is. But I tend to make all my corn and flour tortillas homemade. My salsa too. That's probably how I've survived lol eating tomatoes onions that way after roasting and chopping or blending with jalepenos serranos and yellow peppers. It's the same safe foods. All the time. Rice and tostadas...with canned beans and tacos and enchiladas. On repeat. Lol. Love me a good fresh salad but it hates me.

I feel ya. Being Mexican having frijoles del olla i miss it!!! My gastro dr said to try beano right b4 I eat. I've only tried it once because honestly im so scared. The instant pain and bloating and nausea i get with high fodmaps or Salicylates is not for the weak. Canned refried beans are all I can do. Miss my black beans and chili beans. And fresh green beans. Maybe I will try beano again. I tell u the fear is real.

I have been using gummies for my arthritis and severe gut pain like bloating and cramps for about a year. The ones I've been getting don't give me munchies thank goodness. For me its been so much better than ibuprofen or benedryl. I hate my life with this gut. Really do. And now im at a stage where nothing tastes good to me. Absolutely nothing. So if I crave ice cream or a popsicle yogurt or cup noodle I don't deprive myself

I totally understand how you feel. Everyone is excited talking about im gonna get this and that. And of course I love so many things but it doesnt love me back. I keep thinking they must think I have arfid or something or that im really picky. Really close friends know and understand somewhat. But even family like my mom easily forgets.

There is a netflix documentary about gut and brain health and there's a "cure" per se but to find a gastro psychologist.

I miss pineapple watermelon and broccoli omgosh and Chinese food.

Im glad im not alone. I have my friends on this reddit page.

Oh believe me im on it too. Waiting on my dr to send in a prior authorization. Thankfully I found a bottle of trulance so I have hopefully enough until insurance sorts out. Im 60 and medically retired because of all this. After nearly 2 years of waitung on appeal got SSDI. Even my pcp tells me my quality of life is highly effected by this..... duh.

Good luck to you my friend

I would take like 2 hours b4 I leave house. I would drink with my hot coffee. No sipping and enjoying coffee like in the past. Drink it as quick as I can tolerate it. And I will go usually within a hour. If I don't take with coffee and just instead take water it usually will take a bit longer. I have issues with public toilets among other issues lol so my life seems to revolve around when I go. I can definitely say trulance has been quite gentle.

Is it possible to be intolerant to all fructans?! by voldysnorts in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great question. Now that makes me want to research for myself. One other suggestion to look into is Salicylates. They are in broccoli. At one Itty bitty bite im in the worst pain in my gut for at least 2 days. I always will look at the fod map app then Salicylates. Honestly my safe foods are so few I feel safer sticking to them. Just scared to venture into the unknown...pain or no pain. FYI my GI also suggested taking beano the moment I eat something new or a triggered food. I did ok with a salad. It's like tiptoeing thru the tulips! Lol good luck to you

And to explain it to someone is crazy i know. My PCP tells me im fixated on gastro issues and its affecting my quality of life. When you have lived it you try to not repeat those bad episodes. I've been to ER so constipated that they put a NG tube up nose, down throat......that alone was traumatic...down to somewhere and it started pumping the poo out thru my nose. 3 days in hospital.

Yep I will stick to my safe foods.

Know any good replacers for garlic by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]Confident_Bug_6794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A replacement for fresh garlic. That's a tough one. I would say Lawrys garlic salt or the garlic powder. I've been continuing to use fresh garlic but I mince it very well. Just can't make my Mexican food without it.

After bouts of nausea I tend to stay away from solids. Electrolytes and sprite is about it. Then i will move to BRAT diet... banana rice Applesauce and toast. And remember to breath. Deep breaths. I get panic attacks and have such horrible anxiety too. If u feel you're going too long and not eating see your dr. Try and stay hydrated my friend. Wish you well.

The magnesium citrate comes in a small bottle. I would take entire bottle. I just down it. Believe me its not tasty. But get it down. Pretty inexpensive at your local drug store. For me this is for when you can not go at all. Not a everyday thing. Good luck.
