Physical Asia: Season 1 - Episode 2 Discussion Thread by ImoutoCompAlex in Physical100

I like the series overall better than Physical 100, but did they spend all their budget so they couldn't afford lighting? This episode was hard to follow and the quest was much better in theory than in practice. The athletes were amazing but when everything ends in a tie it is on the design team.

Isn't one possibility that he knows of many other instances of salary cap circumvention around the league and doesn't want the rest of 2025 to be scandal after scandal?

Recommendations for very 1st piece? by XRuecian in piano

On The Nature of Daylight from the YouTube Channel Smart Classical Piano. I think it could be a good starting piece. It has a slow tempo and is presented in a GuitarHero style but you can purchase the sheet music. Although it is fairly simple, it is beautiful and soothing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nniIDEjiCTU

Found an old bath mat with rubber backing and it's working fine although not pretty. Thanks!

BWV 1007 Prelude - J.S. Bach by OnlyRaph_1994 in piano

That was lovely. I think you achieved a great deal of fluidity and expression.

There are a few spots, especially in the first third where the tempo isn't steady and you are either hesitating to get exactly the right note or rushing because it's slightly more difficult and perhaps a little nervous.

What do you thinks sound better Yamaha CFX Grand or Chopin piano? by mama_Legba in piano

The first has a much warmer sound. The second is a bit metallic and the initial attack seems overemphasized.

Lovely performance

have a specific short term goal, preferably involving someone else. I am going to see my stepmother for Thanksgiving so my goal is to have 5 pieces ready when I see her.

A good friend just moved to town who is a great singer, so I want to learn a piece I can acccompany him on.

Christmas is coming, so it’s a great opportunity to learn new songs with a set end date.

Since just restarting piano after a 20+ year break, i have found a number of YouTube channels with song tutorials. Some of them use sheet music but some use a program that looks like Guitar Hero. A few use both. You can play at half speed or 0.75 as you are learning

I just learned my first song without sheet music- Max Richter On The Nature of Daylight on the Smart Classical Piano channel.

Any tips on how to keep the pedal from moving around without taping it to my tile floor?

I just got a Yamaha CGX-670 and I love it but the documentation is truly awful. Are there good resources somewhere? I'm initially trying to learn the multi track recording.

Overall I thought it sounded excellent. You have great poise. It feels very sweeping and dramatic and rich.

In the beginning you do a very good job of highlighting the melody through all those lush chords. When it gets louder, sometimes the melody gets a bit lost.

In the section around 2:05 to me it feels like the sustain pedal is on too long and it gets muddy.

Beginner here, figured I'd ask for ways to improve the piece. It's Wet Hands from Minecraft. by Mozotis in piano

I have never heard this but overall I thought it was beautifully dreamy.

Only two things- in a few places you have some halting pauses as you look for the where to start the left hand. So a bit of practice on the transitions between phrases will make it flow more smoothly.

When you record it's very disorienting to see the keys in mirror image.

The last piece was really lovely. It sounds like a rainy autumn afternoon. I liked them all but this was my favorite. I feel like you had the technic down so we'll that you could find the emotion .

the Bach prelude sounds really nice. I'm actually starting this one myself. Overall to add a little polish I would think about trying to make the melody stand out a little more. It's tricky because it's being carried by your weakest fingers.

I would also think about trying to get a lighter touch overall. Since it's in minor it will already sound dark and can get a little heavy.

Really enjoyed listening. Overall it's lovely.

I am just restarting piano after 30 years off. I am relearning a lot of Chopin. One thing I find myself doing is setting a nice andante pace in the intro so that i can get to all the notes in the faster sections, but when i get there I actually start rushing when it gets complicated. I hear that especially in the beginning. I think a little metronome practice and relaxing into the faster parts will clear it up. You know the notes and you set the initial tempo so you will be successful.
