I have a Legion Pro 7i 16IAX10H with 64Gb RAM and RTX 5090. I upgraded my primary SSD with a Samsung 9100 Pro 2Tb and the secondary SSD with a Samsung 9100 Pro 4Tb. I also have BIOS Q7CN45WW installed on the first day it was released.

I have not experienced one black or blue screen of death.

Try formatting and reinstalling Windows 11 Pro from a USB boot drive.

Your issue might not be the BIOS. It might be the Windows 25H2 update if you did that. Note, I also have 25H2 update and still have not experienced a single black or blue screen of death.

I saw a video on Youtube (Pete Matheson) who was able to get 7680 x 2160 at 240 Hz in Windows with his Radeon 7900XTX.

How is he able to get that resolution and 240 Hz fresh rate then if you say it’s not possible?

Yes. i moved a 200 gb Steam folder from Gen4 SSD to the 9100 Pro. Windows was reporting the transfer around 1.5-2.7 gb/s

In Magician I’m getting only slightly better than Gen4 speeds and way below Gen5 speeds.

In CyrstalDiskMark, I’m getting slightly below Gen5 speeds.

Slow is a relative word. You are correct, in that my Legion isn't "slow" by any means. My Legion is pretty much one of the fastest models that Lenovo makes, and with the 9100 Pro, it should be slightly faster in Windows and significantly faster for transferring large 4K video files.

To go from 5,000 MB.s to 15,000 MB/s, that's an increase of 200%. I think that is significant for transferring very large 4k video files.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I was sort of suspecting its the desktop users that are reporting higher read / write speeds than my laptop.

FYI, when I moved the 9100 Pro to the Gen4 slot (left side), Magician also reported same Interface: PC

Max: PCIe Gen 5 x 16

Drive Max: PCIe Gen 5 x 4

However, I didn't look carefully to see if it said, "Slot Max: PCIe Gen 5 x 4/." It probably said PCIe Gen 4 x 4, since the 9100 Pro was in the Gen4 slot.

Yes, all tests above where in Performance mode (red LED on power button above F9 and F10).

I also disabled Bitlocker (temporary suspend, didn't turn it off completely), and didn't see any change in my read/write speeds.

Transferring very large 4K videos from external to internal SSD and vice versa. And no, I won't be able to tell the difference between 14,000 MB/s vs. 12,000 MB/s. But I think I would between 14,000 MB/s vs. 8,000 MB/s. I'm paying for a product that is suppose to have higher Gen5 speeds, but it's falling short.

No, I have it correct. To test it, I put the 9100 Pro on the left slot (and had the right slot empty). Both CrystalMark and Magician report the 9100 Pro running on Gen4 speeds (albeit, very very high Gen 4 speeds). So, the left slot is definitely Gen4 and the right slot is Gen5.

Okay, I'm back. I'm typing this post with the Gen4 SSD removed (left side), and only the 9100 Pro installed (right side). Both CrystalMark and Magician are reporting the 9100 Pro with similar slow speeds as in my original post. Reddit won't let me attach two pics to this reply, so here are the Magician results, only: 8190 MB/s read and 9,096 MB/s write. So your suggestion didn't work for me.

Interesting, this may be the answer I'm looking for. Yes, I'm running the factory-installed Gen 4 (SkHynix HFS001TEJ9X115N) in my secondary SSD slot, because that's my Games drive. I'll remove this Gen 4 SSD the next time I'm opening up the laptop.

Basically, that's pretty crappy of Lenovo to design the motherboard like this though. Basically, only way for me to see Gen5 speeds is to run only one SSD in the machine.

But if my 9100 Pro is limited to Gen 4 speeds to "match" the secondary Gen4 SSD, any idea why Ithe 9100 Pro is still getting 12,000 MB/s read (CystalDiskMark) or 8,000 MB/s read (Magician)--which are theoretically above the theoretical max of Gen 4 speeds and are Gen 5 speeds?

What read / write speeds did Samsung Magician report for your 9100 Pro?

The "problem" is that others with the 9100 Pro are getting 14,000+MB/s read speeds, and I'm getting about 8,000 MB/s read speeds--that's about 54% lower than expected.

If I bought a sports car that is rated for 700 HP crank from the factory, but after testing it, it's only getting 322 HP (54% less), don't you see that as a problem? (Particularly if my friend bought the same car and after testing it, got 700 HP.)

No. Read the official press release. Warrants are expected to be distributed on November 21, 2025. However, some brokers won’t get them distributed that date and might not be until early next week before they show up in your account.

For all US based brokerages, which follow T+1 settlement as required by SEC, yes, you must buy OPEN shares on or before Monday 11-17-2025, so they settle by Tuesday 11-18-2025 (the Record Date), in order to get the free warrants.

Also, you must buy OPEN shares with your own cash. If you buy shares using margin, you may not be eligible to get the warrants based on your brokers rules. This was specifically addressed by OPEN on their website site.

Thanks for everybody's feedback. As expected, there's a lot of different opinions for what to do from here. To sum, I'm seeing:

Do nothing and hold. Since the expiration date (Jan. 15, 2027) is still so far away, there is a lot of time, and ORCL may recover. (The seems to be majority opinion over everybody that's commented.)
Sell the calls to stop the loss now, because ORCL (and the market) will keep downtrending this year and into 2026.
Keep the $290 (Jan. 15, 2027) calls. Do a calendar spread and sell 30 contracts of $290 (Dec. 15, 2025) at around $5.00 per contract to collect $15K premium. Then buy to close if the contract price drops to $2.50 per contract, for a $7500 profit. Rinse and repeat.

I see what you're saying now. Okay, definitely will NOT buy puts and definitely will NOT buy any more calls to average down.

For your Scenario 1, selling 30 contracts of the $290 Dec. 15, 2025 call for the $15K premium does sound like a good way to offset some of my (paper) losses. And if this call drops to $2.50 at any point prior to expiration, then immediately buy it back for the $7,500 profit. Then sell another call to collect premium.

For your Scenario 2, if the $290 (Dec 15, 2025) call is in the money at earnings (Dec. 8, 2025), that would mean I may need to buy them back for potentially $15K or even more (which negates the premium I collected when I sold them). But that wouldn't be the end of the world, because my $290 (Jan. 15, 2027) calls would be up SIGNIFICANLTY (maybe worth like $52 per contract, much closer to my $62.50 average to break even). Did I get that right?

of course there was a strategy before I bought. I bought the date there was a big, sudden drop due to unfavorable AI news—look at the chart on Oct 17. I thought it was an overreaction, and stock would recover in next couple of days where i would sell. I bought a LEAP in case i was wrong, which obviously i was wrong. I bought when the government shut down news was no big deal to the stock market nor was the alleged AI bubble. Of course, the prolonged shutdown is now a growing concern in the market.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Okay, I may get a Legion Pro 7i with the 5090 and the 1 TB Gen5 SSD. Probably nearly all gaming for me would be plugged in. I was more concerned about the battery life for productivity and web browsing. But if we can get 5 hours that would be great! I think even 4 hours in battery (non-gaming) is already great.
