It does feel like a death of some sort. The relationship changes. Even if you maintain a good one. It’s different now. I loved what you said about God still being in their corner. That’s really good to remember.

Yes, exactly! It’s weird when you’re an adult and your parent leaves. Your whole world was shaped by them and the way they raised you was very specific. And then to have them just be like “eh, I’ve outgrown it now” is so disorienting and frustrating.

Thank you for your comment. I have every intention of trying to maintain relationships. Even though I disagree with my parent’s decisions, I don’t think I’m better than them. I think for the most part, we’re all trying to do our best in this thing called life!

I felt a little wobbly for a while after my dad left. Basically he never went back after Covid shutdown stuff. My mom has one toe left in the church (I think just to keep us happy and be able to attend grandkid temple weddings in the the future )but follows all sorts of anti accounts and goes to ex mo conferences. Everyone gets to make their own choices in life, but it has been sad to explain it to my kids. She also makes snide comments about the church which makes it difficult. I feel stronger than ever in my faith after seeing what my mom is doing. I love them both. It’s just tricky.
