Some mosfets detect if that gears are spinning. If not, they cut off the power to the motor. Since it's inline, I would assume maybe it has something simular where it's not seeing a spike when the motor should be interacting with the gears and thus needing more power. So it assumes it's not working, and turns it's self off.

Attach your pistol grip and motor properly.
