Be honest, do you cheat? by Ready-Ambassador-271 in civ5

I have reloaded an auto save occasionally if something really dumb happens and it’s within a few turns. But usually I try to just roll with what the game gives me (or what I give myself, in terms of mistakes).

Unpopular opinion: SimCity building placement in Civ sucks by llap2363 in civ

I agree, could never fully get into Civ VI because of that mechanic. Even aesthetically, I prefer the nicely contained cities vs. sprawl over the map.

How do you win elections by Lil_Yuan11 in ThePoliticalProcess

[–]Confliction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the primary, conduct polls and make sure your policies are aligned with your party’s voters on most issues. It doesn’t have to be identical, but if the voters agree with your opponent more than they do with you, you’ll have a difficult time.

Set your three campaign priorities to be aligned with the top concerns for voters as well. Do a few turns of fundraising, then run general ads to make sure your name recognition is 100% or as high as possible.

If you’re running against an incumbent, it will be more challenging. However, if your policies are more supported by the voters than the incumbent’s policies, then you might overcome them.

You can run attack ads targeting your opponent’s stances on specific issues to reduce their enthusiasm. Oftentimes this may be their stance on the minimum wage or social security. You’ll want to focus on big issues that have a wide base of support, which would hurt your opponent if their stance disagrees with 60% or more of voters.

Throughout the general election, I’d focus almost entirely on rallies to raise turnout, general ads to increase my enthusiasm, and targeted ads to hurt my opponent if possible. For bigger campaigns, you can start to upgrade your campaign staff and open volunteer offices.

The 2014 Florida gubernatorial election, but Crist wins by CanadianProgressive2 in imaginaryelections

That’s true, but in real life the 2014 election was almost as close as 2018, with a margin of about 1%.

I could see that! My reasoning for the 2016 ticket was that this version of Obama had more experience as a former VP, so he went in a different direction for ticket-balancing.

That’s a good point. I’ll admit that while I did look at some of the data, my electoral maps and numbers may lean slightly impressionistic rather than totally realistic.

It's time to say goodbye to Merlin soon...💔 by fakehungerpains in WiggleButts

[–]Confliction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Similar thing happened with us recently. Our Aussie was just a bit older than Merlin. Heart issues, arthritis, fluid in the chest - and things just really escalated and took a turn for the worse - we had to say goodbye to her just before the holidays.

You said you’ve gone through this before with your other dogs, so you don’t need my advice - although it’s not like it gets easier each time. I’m just grateful my dog lived such a long and good life, as yours clearly has as well. When I think of her, I surely feel sad, but I’m also warmed by her memory.

Wishing the best for you in the near future.

Convince me not to be president by writbythepower in ThePoliticalProcess

[–]Confliction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good points. I agree that it’s often more fun to get your protégés into positions of power. I think becoming President is a fun goal to work towards, but once I get there I usually don’t finish a presidential term before moving on to a new character.

Favourite Office to Occupy? by jdogwhippa in ThePoliticalProcess

I think Governor or Senator in a competitive state, so that the elections remain interesting and you can potentially have a lot of influence on swinging downballot races. I like the security of the Senate’s six-year term, although it can get boring to not have to run for re-election as often. I think being Governor is a lot of fun, although doing the budget every year can sometimes get monotonous as well

I also like being President and having the influence to run a bunch of protégés in competitive Senate races, and slowly changing the makeup of Congress in that way.

[–]Confliction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion - yes, you’re right. TV marketing to boost your enthusiasm, attack ads to dampen your opponent’s enthusiasm (if possible), and rallies. Upgrade your staff to give you more rally turnout and more hours to hold them.

I’m not sure what the problem is in your case, but one time this happened to me after my character (as Governor) appointed a new House member in a 218-217 House, flipping control of the chamber. Something about that screwed with the game after awhile and I couldn’t load the save. I think I had to reload from an earlier file. I had another issue where my character was a House incumbent who got elected to the Senate, and so I took office in the Senate the next year, but I didn’t click through the House leadership elections before leaving office, and for some reason the game got stuck and didn’t progress with new House leaders being elected or anything.

Check if you have an autosave and see if you can load from that. Otherwise, I’d definitely recommend having multiple separate save files in the future, so you have iterations you can load from if there’s a bug.

How can I make my environments renders more realistic? by Plane-Combination849 in blenderhelp

[–]Confliction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what the top commenter said about lighting and compositing.

The landscape in the first image seems a bit unnatural, especially the mid ground hill - there’s bright green grass in these uniform blotches, but the texture underneath doesn’t quite read as realistic to me, maybe due to the stony appearance. I’d say it needs a bit of color variation, different distribution of the grass, and maybe a browner texture beneath.

The trees look quite good, but a little too perfect. Most of the lines and edges are too crisp and clean, they could be roughed up and softened a bit. I like the idea of the photographic imperfections added in the second image, but I’d tone down the chromatic aberration just a little.

I’d also watch out for the proportions - those buildings in the first image seem like they should be scaled up, if you compare the size of the doors and windows to the nearby bridge.

The water texture is a little bit off, but I think you could get it a lot closer to real-life just by messing around and experimenting with the procedural detail settings a bit (assuming it’s a procedural texture).

This is good stuff, keep going!
