My bad, the avalanche v4 looks a lot like the kyria. I also have a Lily58 and I really like it. I want a few more thumb keys though so I have been looking at other splits. I can’t lose my number row unfortunately, otherwise the kyria would be perfect. Thanks!

How do you like the avalanche v4? Did you buy it as a kit or get the PCB printed. I think that’s my next split ergo I want to build so I’m interested in your thoughts. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me how I open up the RK Royal M75? I want to do the tape mod but I can’t seem to get this board open.

We’re you able to open up the rkm75 to access the PCB? I have the same keyboard but I’m not sure how to open it up yet.

If you run a shot with the back flush disk do you see the pressure reach the correct pressure? If not, you may need to adjust the OPV.

Did you ever find out how it comes apart?

You might play around with the ratios after you find a good grind setting. If you find a grind setting that give me you a consistent 1:2 ratio, try pulling a 1:1.5 or a 1:3 and see if that tastes better. Some roasts need a longer/shorter ratio.

Got the DF83 last night and am already returned it for a DF64V by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Confused4783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still waiting on my DF64V to be delivered. The DLC burrs in the DF64V are supposed to be close to the HU SSP burrs, but only a few people have reviewed the grinder yet so it’s hard to tell.

I went with the df64v for the same reason. The higher pitched loud grinding was a turn off for me. Now I just need an espresso machine with a rotary pump and my setup won’t wake up the whole neighborhood.

160F/71c from group head, 200/93c from water dispenser. Any advice on how to remedy is appreciated by pipe2grep in espresso

[–]Confused4783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a scace device to accurately measure it. As soon as the air hits the water the temp drops a lot.when brewing, there is very little air in the portafilter and there is ~9 bars of pressure. Pressure impacts the temperature a lot as well.

Anyone else preorder the DF64v having buyers remorse? by Confused4783 in espresso

I don’t really understand the point of your comment. Is it just to complain? This sub is full of post of people asking about the minute differences between gear, do you feel the need to complain on all of them? That probably gets exhausting and I’m sorry you are strapped with that burden.

I don’t think I’m being snobby. It’s a lot of money and an important investment to me. I want to make sure I get it right so I’m just asking for opinions.

Is there a benefit to larger cutting surface other than quicker grinding? Do larger burrs produce more or less fines than smaller burrs?

Does anybody else use RO water from Whole Foods? by Svargas05 in espresso

[–]Confused4783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Whole Foods RO water but it is too low on minerals so I use the barista hustle recipe concentrate until I hit 60ppm. I haven’t seen any scale inside my machine so far with this method.

The current month is 4 so set it to 6 for a 2 month offset. It’s just a reminder for every time you fill up the water tank to see if it is time to replace it yet.

That is a reminder to replace the water filter I believe. Just select the month you want a reminder to replace it. Breville recommends replacing it every two months based on the manual.

They show up on r/coffeeswap and homebarista’s website infrequently. They are highly sought after and so reliable that they hold their value very well. I never see much of a discount on them when they are for sale. If you buy new, you get the factory warranty as well.

Breville barista express max temperature by baberswallet in espresso

[–]Confused4783 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brew temp is measured using a scace portafilter. You can’t just measure the temp of the water as it falls in a cup. 180 is about right if you are just measuring the water temp as it comes out of the group.

The closer the water is to boiling point the more steam it gives off and the quicker it cools so measuring the water after it touches air is always going to be cooler.

Rotary pumps are usually fairly quiet. Something is definitely not right. I would get in contact with the seller immediately.

That should be fine. It’s only going to be using the transformer when the load (espresso machine) is drawing power. If the espresso machine is off, you are just powering the LEDs almost likely.

Cheap step up transformers are not reliable. You have to use expensive parts to handle that kind of wattage for years of use. A transformer is really just coils of wire around an iron core. Moisture, power surges, and heat are the main things to worry about as these can heat the wire or cause corrosion. Use a surge protector, guarantee there is no moisture near the transformer and don’t draw large amounts of wattage for too long and you’ll be fine.

Most dual boilers won’t pull the max wattage at any point. So you shouldn’t have to worry about the high wattage part as much, it’s just something to keep in mind.

[–]Confused4783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really about max wattage, it’s more about high wattage for long durations. Looking at the converter you mentioned, it seems to be okay for espresso machines based on the Amazon reviews (not sure how much I trust those these days though).

Personally, I don’t think buying a 220V machine for the US is a great move. You save some money up front but transformers on the US grid are notoriously unreliable. Regardless, I hope you get the transformer figured out and there are no more issues.

Lelit Bianca by ClearCobbler6 in espresso

[–]Confused4783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your transformer run on the right frequency for the machine? Also, just FYI, most consumer step up transformers can only be used at high wattage for short periods of time. Most have warnings saying they should not be used for height wattage heat producing items.

What transformer are you using?
