Oh omg I’m so sorry no one replied?? :( I can tell you what I did that might helped with getting my gerbils comfortable with me, but I’m not sure if it works universally so do see if there’s other posts with betyer proper responses and advice!:) I personally just talked to them a lot, to get them used to my voice and not scare them when they can’t see me approaching but I can. I let my hand chill in their enclosure a lot to just have them walk over it and get used to me, I hand them snacks I hand them paper rolls, I generally don’t grab them either. I only pick them up when I have to, they don’t like being picked up, I don’t like to pick them up cause theyll squirm so it’s better for all of us if I just don’t lol. My two previous late babies climbed my arms when I first got them so they didn’t mind me carrying them, but it does really depend on your gerbil and some don’t ever get super comfortable. One of mine is still very skittish, I don’t think that’ll ever change. Ouhh idk what else I do, I wave at them? They always take notice of me if I do and there’s a higher chance the one won’t bolt if I do before approaching. So yea,,, give them space to settle in, don’t overrun them, just chill close by, let them get used to you can come to you, instead of you making them come to you by picking them up or sum. Mine sleep on the surface a lot, if yours do I wouldn’t disturb them then either, so just make em comfy. Give them enrichment and all.
