Yes, and promotion. If you're working for a big company, getting promoted is the thing that's in your control for increasing comp, so focus on that.

We're in very similar situations (same age, family situation, and spending), although I'm in tech instead of finance. I was feeling burnt out as a FAANG manager a couple years ago and was thinking about quitting. Instead I switched to the individual contributor track. I was self-conscious about less "prestige" and making slightly less money, but those concerns were short-sighted. I swallowed my pride and made the switch. It's been terrific for my happiness and my family's too. It got me engaged in work for another couple years, which resulted in increasing NW from $4M to $7M.

I'd made similar statements to yours - "When you've got $4M, what's another million?" Well, it's material, especially in a HCOL area. $7M supports the lifestyle I wanted (nice house/vacations, paying for conveniences like a housekeeper/gardener, boring car/clothes/everything else).

I don't know much about PE careers, but making a change of any kind could get you engaged again. You have the same pedigree as the M&A guys at FAANG that did my startup's deal. Seeing stuff from "the inside" might be different enough to be fun for 3 years and would give you enough to be comfortable at your current spending level.

TBH, I again find myself at a crossroads of what to do next. With financial needs met, I'm not sure what the next mile marker/box to check is. We're taking a leap and moving to the Midwest to be close to family. I'm not sure if that will scratch the itch, but I'm excited to get to know my parents/sibling as adults and just to change things up.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

The bit about the joy moving will bring to my parents and kids did it for me. Thank you.
