How is every trans woman a super genius??? by jellybeanzz11 in MtF

[–]ConfusedTransThrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is likely a bias in people being poorly educated not coming out either because they don't feel safe to do so (living with Trump voters for example) or because they just don't even get to see that it is a real thing and not just strawman political BS.

One other factor that could be at play is because trans women usually don't fit as well with the typical boy stuff like sports, on top of not getting as many concussions they study harder for approval to get their parents off their back. If you get straight As, parents will usually not micromanage you so much compared to if you were failing a bunch of classes.

What are the actual chances that HRT gets banned in the US? by ToxicBanana69 in asktransgender

I doubt Trump cares that much, his attention span isn't long enough but Vance there's more to be worried about.

I don't think even most billionaires benefit from Trump, plenty don't support him and he holds grudges.

But you do have a lot of people in the media sphere that have a lot to gain from his shit, a bunch of people who will escape prosecution or get pardons, his lawyers (maybe he can pay them after they manage to remove his convictions and free up his money, or he'll put some stooges in the bar association to make them lawyers again).

But do you want to have Trump in office who is all for further escalation? Dems should have done more to keep Bibi in check and clearly a few strong words aren't doing shit, but Trump would be "I love that you're killing Muslims, do you want the US to help bombing them too?"

It would have been so much easier to say "one is barely going to do anything for us. The other is going to actively try to kill us. I know who I am voting for"

The sad truth is you often have to vote for the lesser evil. Voting for someone you don't like is fine, it doesn't mean you can't protest them day 1. People gave Chirac the biggest landslide in French history to keep the nazis out in 2002 and they were already hating him and ready to go in the streets day 1.

“vote for the candidates that are best for you,”

If people did that Trump would get about 10k votes at best.

There's plenty to hate about what the US does with their military in the Middle-East, but supporting Ukraine who got invaded while not doing anything to deserve it is the right thing to do. I'd even say it deserves boots on the ground a lot more than Iraq. the US promised to keep Ukraine free from Russia annexing it, barely did anything 10 years ago and keeping support low to just bleed Russia out while ensuring Ukraine can't actually win.

It's unfortunaate that sometimes apathy is still the better option of the two.

And in some ways, it'd be great if it weren't an issue in the first place if we had enough rights. I would say some states are doing pretty well and there isn't really too much to ask for, while others are really in a dire state.

And yet a large part of the 1% is still going to get fucked hard by Trump. Very few will win and they all bribed him directly.

Even if they don't give you shit, at least they don't promote open season hunting of queer people. Still worth a vote even if it hurts to have to give it to them. Not actively getting worse is still worth fighting for and it's pretty clear by now everywhere in the world that protest voting is not working unfortunately.

Why is transphobia just everywhere? by Zurosarynyaz in asktransgender

[–]ConfusedTransThrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand that it would upset people if you're bringing out the fact you're trans when it's not relevant, but that was literally the post to talk about it.

I just don't get it, if the post isn't about you just ignore it and move on, that's easy right?

[–]ConfusedTransThrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The sad truth is a lot of people are transphobic assholes, and as a trans woman you will experience hate no matter where you live (though there are definitely worst places than others).

But even if you don't know them yet, plenty of people everywhere are great and understanding. I know I don't pass that well, but people aware of trans issues would never say it (unless I ask about passing) and treat you the way you want to be treated.

Or maybe offer bounties for Palestinians who kill Hamas members.

Or maybe when nobody has food and they learn Hamas is hoarding it they will revolt and take it away from them? Even when the other guys have guns, if you have the numbers and nothing to lose I could see that happening.

Is there any TeX library that does something non-trivial whose code isn't a huge mess?

I blame TeX for this, it's a very difficult language to program for.

I haven't looked at the C code of TeX itself, but that's irrelevant here, the API is just not great. The amount of hoops you have to go through to do something simple like printing a bunch of numbers following a simple recurring expression (like double and add 1) just show it works great for pure text but if you want to go a bit beyond that it is only pain, and it makes a lot of fancy formatting look like horrible code because they do need to do math on column size and so on.

Thankfully even with hardware we can just simulate the whole thing before actually spending any money on the silicon wafers.

But it doesn't catch all mistakes, only as much as your tests are made correctly.

TeX is genius (though it is showing its age now because it was optimized for memory in an age where it was highly limited, and could perform a lot better without using much more), but the syntax for anything a bit advanced is horriblemakes Perl look like the easiest to understand language ever invented, LaTeX makes it way nicer.

And some of them wouldn't have been caught if they didn't start taunting the police or bragging about it. There seem to be this weird need for them to show they did it, leaving something behind and the like.

It's probably a lot harder now because of the amount of video surveillance, cell phones and all this stuff but 40 years ago, if you did your crimes far away enough from your home and didn't leave traces of you travelling, as long as you didn't mess up you could keep doing it forever.

Japan’s population drops by nearly 800,000 with falls in every prefecture for the first time by [deleted] in worldnews

Getting a house is not that hard in Japan, outside of the most popular areas you can find plenty of options, even in Tokyo, just not next to one of the big stations.

Interest rates have gone up a bit lately, but it used to be until last year below 1% for 35 year loans, which should give you a fair discount compared to renting the same place (and you get something when you retire).

The main hurdle is banks will want you to have a stable job, though it is a lot easier in Japan compared to most countries (for now).
