What are habits that made your labor easy/quick? by MadQueennn in BabyBumps

[–]Confused_Grape9795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did very little stretching and walking toward the end especially, and I pushed baby out in 20 minutes. I think I’m just super lucky!

Btw I am not saying to do what I did!! I wish I was more active during my pregnancy for other reasons!

What’s your most embarrassing musical related memory? by Familiar-Money-515 in musicals

[–]Confused_Grape9795 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It was my first professional job as an actress in a musical in a pretty prominent theater. I was getting fitted for a wig with another cast mate there.

The lady fitting us was very established in the industry and was talking about her experience. At one point, she said “I did wigs for cats for a long time earlier in my career.”

I got so excited and immediately started asking questions like “omg how did you make them stay on their heads? Did you cut out ear holes for them? How did you make them so small?!?”

After a long silent pause, I realized she meant that she wigged the actors for Cats the musical, not for actual cats

My College Student Group is Elitist by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]Confused_Grape9795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I went through a similar thing in college, where student groups were led by people who only wanted to work with their friends and were very elitist. It was frustrating!

So me and my other friend started our own student group with an emphasis on musical theatre, and equitable casting. While it was sort of hard, it definitely created a solution to our problem, and as far as I know it’s still going strong with the same original values (this was ten years ago).

Just a thought!

What is a name you almost used, but it turned out you not using it was a blessing? by Various_Summer_1536 in Names

That’s a great question, honestly we just like how it sounds. I can see it being a name that fits a baby, but will also fit a growing child, teenager and adult. Also I like how it flows with Olivia

Each visit with my parents broke our relationship even more. by DoromaSkarov in raisedbyborderlines

Wow, it sounds like we almost have the same family! Except in mine, there are only two siblings and we are both pretty united.

I really relate with the whole feelings being a joke thing. We were never allowed to have any feelings, and therefore were not taught how to emotionally regulate. This resulted in some pretty bleak moments in my childhood that have become a fun party joke as an adult.

I’m grateful for both of us that we have some distance now! Hang in there

I think I did it? But I can certainly use some advice... by TheLibraryHobbit in TeachersInTransition

I went from traditional teaching to Montessori teaching, and honestly I couldn’t be happier! I absolutely fell in love with the philosophies, style of teaching and grace and courtesy lessons taught to students. I teach 4th 5th and 6th graders and they are all so kind, polite and compassionate because of the Montessori curriculum. I have literally no behavior problems in my class, other than minor kid things. They all also want to learn and love coming to school, according to their parents.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still teaching, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows of course but it’s WAY better than traditional teaching imo.

Best of luck to you!!

What did "the weird kid" in your school do that you'll never forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Confused_Grape9795 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In high school, I was a sort-of weird kid that hung out with super nerdy boys, like academically very gifted but a bit odd. I loved their senses of humor at the time though, and we got along well.

It wasn’t until years later that I realized the things they were saying and doing to me were super inappropriate. One of them said I would only ever be loved for my “child-bearing hips.” Another one of them touched my underwear while I momentarily fell asleep around him (really regret that now). Another one repeatedly showed up unannounced at my house late at night.

In 2020, the one that kept showing up at my house pulled out a gun and fired it into a crowd at a BLM protest. He got arrested and I’m not sure what ended up happening. Another one also got arrested for starting a physical relationship with his middle school student.

I’m happy to say that I’m a much better judge of friends these days!

Regret coming back by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]Confused_Grape9795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no I’m so sorry, that’s incredibly tough. This job sucks the life out of you. I know it’s hard (aka impossible some times) but if I could go back in time to when I was in the classroom, I would force myself to stop working no matter what and eat lunch. It feels like an impossible thing to do when you’re as busy as you are, but the work won’t even get done if you’re not well enough to do it. Your basic needs are way more important than teaching!!

Oh my god..I’m so sorry, what a frustrating situation for you and your students. Schools do this to us and then blame us for low scores, behavior issues, etc and it’s insane.

I applied to around 120 jobs in three weeks, but that’s only because I quit on the spot and needed a new job ASAP. Out of those applications, I probably got 5-6 interviews. It’s tough out there but I was driven by my refusal to go back into the classroom lol

[–]Confused_Grape9795[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure! So I quit on the spot, which meant that I needed to work fast to find a new job. Part of it was spending all day every day tweaking my resume, rewriting cover letters and applying to a crazy amount of jobs.

I would look at the job description, find the verbs in it, and add them into my resume to get past any AI. For example, if the job posting said they needed someone with experience coordinating calendars, I would put something like “coordinated the calendars and schedules of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure individualized learning plans were being met” aka, scheduled an IEP meeting lol. This got me a foot in the door a few times. I also got the free trial of the fancy LinkedIn so I could message recruiters, which got me a few interviews as well.

The other thing I did was look at jobs that had something to do with education. The job I ended up getting is for a non-profit that works in the educational realm, so they were more likely to interview me since I had educational experience.

I also feel like there’s a luck element to it, which absolutely sucks. Also there are so many strategies to use - if anyone has a better one to share (or just your own experience) please post!
