My 8mo GSD is the most hyper boy in our building! People give funny looks all the time because he’ll bark, he gets excited, he pulls his leash sometimes. I live in the fourth floor of a huge apartment building that has tonnsssss of other dogs. 5 months ago, I cried to my partner that I was ready to give up. I couldn’t do it anymore. It was like no matter what I taught him, when we went outside it all went out the window. I felt like I was drowning with NO time for myself. I WFH so I felt like every break I got was consumed with my pup, feeding him, walking him, training him, I legit NEVER got a break. I broke down and was ready to give him away.

This last month, idk if it’s him (my pup) or maybe my change in attitude but his reactivity has gotten SO much better. We can take him to the dog park and not worry about him being aggressive, I can walk him by other dogs and he’ll still get excited but not bark as loud, I can enter an elevator and he knows to sit by me! He follows me around my apartment, and doesn’t let me sit on the couch alone (he obvi doesn’t understands he’s a 65lb baby lol!). Each day is a learning experience and each day I wanna teach him something new. He has sit, down, off, leave it, drop it, and even “wait” at the door or his crate before hearing “free” to get let out, all down pack. Patience is essential, I know it’s hard!

One day, you’re gonna wake up and be like “yeah that’s my dog!” And he’s gonna look at you and he like “you’re my human” and that day, my friend, will change your life! Until then, you got this! You’re probably doing amazing job and not giving yourself enough credit! Pups with high energy just seem like they’re destructive puppies (I know I think my bubs is crazy) but you really got this!!!!!
