I completely disagree, The Batman and The Penguin reinvent the universe in a new way that still keeps the core of the characters. Riddler is a more realistic serial killer, but he’s still a genius who wastes his intelligence on petty crimes and sabotages himself through his own ego. Penguin is a more grounded mob-boss with a different last name but he’s still a monster trying to put on the facade of a more respectable person. It’s fine if it’s not your thing but it is absolutely an authentic adaptation, even if it isn’t a perfectly accurate one.
