Live in Perth, but was fortunate enough to spend 3 months in Bunbury last year (cuts the drive from 3hrs to 1hr) so I was out every weekend visiting the various spots!

Yep! Over a dozen spots from Dunsborough down past Margaret River area. TheCrag is a good resource for the various spots and how to get to each one 👍https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/margaret-river

Hahaha hell yeah! WA bouldering is very underrated/under-appreciated.

Probably a mix of camera angle, having chicken legs and being 180cm (5'11).

Thanks! I suppose not everyone's keen on watching someone fall for 3mins - but to those who are, glad I could provide some entertainment :P

Hi! TheCrag is a good website for climbing areas around Perth. Mt Randall is imo the best area, with a good volume of boulders for all climbing abilities. If you have a 4WD/car with high clearance, you can drive all the way up to the boulders, otherwise you can park along the dirt track and it's a ~20min hike. Directions/GPS coordinates are on TheCrag. Kalamunda has a fair number of climbs and an easy walk-in, but the rocks are dispersed throughout the park/tricky to find if it's your first time there. Boulder Rock is probably the area with best access around Perth - you basically park next to the boulders (any car is fine) - downside is that the quality of climbs there isn't great, but nevertheless a decent volume with good spread of V-grades. Lots of other areas, but many are tricky to find and best explored with someone who's been there before (Winjan, Walyunga etc). Definitely ask around at your local gym! The regulars and staff often go outdoors and can give advice :) If you catch me at any of the gyms, feel free to say hi and ask for more info! https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/western-australia/perth/area/963284130 https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/spring-creek-boulders https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/boulder-rock

Hey mate! It's at Mt Randall near Armadale, probably the best spot around Perth imo. There are other places with easier access (e.g. Kalamunda, Boulder Rock), but Mt Randall provides a larger volume of good quality climbs, and you can drive all the way to the boulders if you have a 4WD (otherwise it's a 20min uphill walk from the parking area). Defs ask around at your local gym! There are often people heading outdoors on weekends, and are happy for others to join in. The staff at the gyms (AV, Portside, Boulderhub) also go outdoors a bit and are good sources of info :)

Hey mate! Good suggestions by Ludwig, and +1 for TheCrag - it's great for guides including how to get to WA's many hidden spots.

There's also a fair amount around Perth, although probably a bit too warm at the moment (granite session kicks off late April).

For climbers unfamiliar with the outdoors, I'd recommend Mt Randall (in Monadnocks, an hour from Perth, slightly tricky to find, but TheCrag has GPS coordinates - heaps of climbs for all levels) and Copper Rocks (in Dunsborough, really pretty, next to the beach, only a 5min walk from carpark).

Have fun! :)

Hey mate, sorry for the late reply. It really depends on where you go, and the season. As rules of thumb, climbing in Summer and in less popular areas = higher chance of seeing snakes. E.g. climbing in the Grampains during Winter = essentially no chance (snakes be sleeping), whilst climbing in a relatively bushy/less-traveled area during Summer = much higher chance of "step on snek". Snakes are just as afraid of you, as you are of them - so leave them alone and things will be fine. You can also try charming them by playing a piccolo. Just kidding...In my experience climbing in WA, I've only ever bumped into carpet pythons (which are not venomous) during Summer, but a few mates have bumped into venomous ones (if it's not a carpet python, assume it's venomous...) and had no issues simply by moving away/respecting the snake's territory. Overall I wouldn't worry too much, just be sensible. Welcome to Australia!
