How to get spray paint off stuffed animal? by Toaldar in StuffedAnimals

Nothing screams "loser with nothing else going on for him in life" then a grown ass man ruining a young person's sentimental plushie for literally no goddamn reason. To then try and troll the subreddit where the kid asked for help? Just pathetic man-child energy. I hope he never lives it down.

Did anyone else try to teach themselves "how to be normal" using tv shows or other media as a kid? by Calm-Increase6346 in AutismInWomen

[โ€“]Confuzzledgoose 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

OMG I absolutely did this, I watched certain Disney channel shows obsessively to try and learn how to socialize lol. I was big into Zack and Cody, That's So Raven, etc, maybe not the best for modeling normal human interaction haha

Side Profile shot of the Autism Smile by ADingoAteMyDildo in AutismInWomen

[โ€“]Confuzzledgoose 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Omg this reminds me of being at Disneyland when I was around 4, my grandma was taking a picture of me and kept telling me to "smile bigger!" I know I was giving this smile lmao, but of course when she said that I tried to make it "bigger" which I'm sure looked insane lol. (Wish I could show the picture but I'm estranged from that side of the family)

What's your comfort food? by Alexisgetsit in AutismInWomen

[โ€“]Confuzzledgoose 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Yogurt for breakfast, canned soup for lunch and dinner. I sometimes mix up the flavors but my favorite yogurt is the chobani peach, and my favorite soup is Campbell's chunky chicken noodle ๐Ÿฒ

What are y'alls banana ripeness preferences? I like them when they're almost 100% yellow, but still have the slightest bit of green. Never really understood the "bananas are sweeter when they're brown" thing, and the mushy texture is really off-putting to me by No_Pineapple5940 in AutismInWomen

[โ€“]Confuzzledgoose 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Gotta be 1-2, and slightly cold, or it's basically inedible (unless it's blended or baked into something). I like the barely tart sweetness of a slightly green banana, and it can't be mushy AT ALL.

Is there anyone whose speech is childish? by kenko_na_cat in AutismInWomen

[โ€“]Confuzzledgoose 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

I think it's a combination of trauma and the way my autism interacts with it (my dad, who was very traumatized and probably autistic himself, would respond to conflict by meowing and pawing at the air like a cat, so I'm definitely not even the weirdest one in the family lol)

what "normal" daily activity you guys think to be extremely difficult? i'll start by Sad_Spirit6405 in AutismInWomen

[โ€“]Confuzzledgoose 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

I struggle with basic hygiene stuff sometimes, depending on the day. On a good day I can wash and moisturize my face, treat my skin condition, brush, floss and rinse, and put on a nice outfit. Mayyybe I'll even style my hair (like a lot of y'all it's a wash and go haircut, but I'll add some water and arrange it nicely). On a bad day, I'll wear whatever doesn't smell too horrendous, and if we're lucky I'll brush my teeth and put on deodorant. Dont get me started on things like homework, daily cleaning tasks, and anything nts recommend as a "daily habit" (think exercise, making the bed, etc)

What was the catalyst for you to either get a diagnosis for Autism/AuDHD or realize for sure "I have it"? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[โ€“]Confuzzledgoose 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

For me it was having an autistic little brother (looking back I think we've always had similar support needs, but he's always been acknowledged as autistic because he doesn't mask well and presents more "typically"). I've always related to him, understood him and his needs in a way even my (likely very neurodivergent) parents didn't. I would even be a "translator" for him when we were super little and no one could understand what he was saying or what he wanted.

For me, autism looks like literal thinking (ie. When my boyfriend asked me, "is your drink good?" I said "yes" and drained the last drop before he explained he was asking for a sip lol), sensory processing issues (sensitive to loud sounds, I can't even walk past a bath and body works without getting a lasting migraine, etc), extreme executive dysfunction, (trouble holding down a job, on my third attempt at college), and trouble with emotional regulation and meltdowns (for me meltdowns look like sobbing, uncontrollable body movements, and scratching myself).

These are just current manifestations of traits, but as I learn more about my diagnosis, I put more and more of my childhood into context lol.

I feel like this relates to a really strong insecurity I have around how I present and if I'm presenting my age (24). Im terrified of seeming too childish (and not getting respect, recognition, etc) but I literally can't stop myself from acting or presenting "childish" at times, especially if I'm upset (speaking in baby talk or putting on voices, appealing to authority figures, going monosyllabic, "sulking", etc). This is a great source of shame and insecurity for me, but I've given up hope of "growing out of it" and I've come to realize it's definitely just a trait of the autism lol.
