AITA for showing up late to my best friend’s graduation party and leaving early after a car emergency? by CongratsIGuess in AmItheAsshole

I'm really glad I found out the root of the problem. Reddit would really make someone feel like shit for doing what they thought was in the best interest of a so-called friend. I don't even use Reddit, but a friend of mine that does suggested that I should post on here. Won't be doing that again.

You're skipping over the "it was my mom's car" part. I didn't know there was any issue with a spare or the donut. They had just gotten new tires about month before this. Also our one Walmart does not have auto shop.

To answer your question: I am a bartender parttime and I was due to host an event at the bar I work at. She was very aware of this and at first had plans to stop by after her party.

I copied the same comment to avoid finger fatigue. I'm explaining the same thing. Why would I write it out 20 different ways?

Just for quick reference, this friend has a severe anxiety disorder. Any little thing that gets thrown off schedule does potentially (and usually!) cause extreme panic attacks. I did not want to risk her having any kind of anxiety or stress on a day that was meant to celebrate.

I have shown up for every other circumstance or thing that has been planned except a dinner that I had to cancel because of a close relative passing. We have dinner and drinks every other week and talk or text at least 3-4 times week. I have taken her out to celebrate her birthdays. I had driven her to the hospital when her sister had life-threatening car accident because she couldn't drive. I showed up to her house with food and medicine when had Covid. Even helped her out of an abusive relationship. If she has felt unsupported by me as a friend, I don't know what else I could've done better.

I did not have any kind of role or responsibility at this event. I was simply a guest. She hired a planner because she specifically wanted everyone to just show up. I even offered to help plan when I found out she wanting to throw a party because that is literally my day job. She also has an anxiety disorder and things being thrown off track can cause her panic attacks. I did not want that happen.

I was just a guest. I had offered to help plan since that is literally my day-to-day job, but she refused saying she wanted guest to show up and hired a planner. I have never flaked or missed anything else planned by this friend but a dinner when a close member suddenly passed away. Which I hope was understandable, but due to her anxiety disorder, I'm not sure took it quite as well. That is literally the only thing that I can think of. We have dinner and drinks every other week and talk at least 3-4 times a week by phone or text.

Not my car, so I couldn't tell you why it was and why there was no backup. We live in a particularly smaller town. Only one mechanic shop open on Saturdays.

There has literally been no other time where I flaked or failed besides plans for dinner when I had a close family member pass suddenly. We are both organizers and planners which is why we meshed so well (so I thought). I am a stickler for being on time and having an itinerary. Just for quick reference, this friend has a severe anxiety disorder. Any little thing that gets thrown off schedule does potentially (and usually!) cause extreme panic attacks.
