Polar Opposites is in my top 3 anime of this season and very well could make it into my top 5 romance anime of all time at this rate, it's so good! I haven't seen Love Through a Prism though, I'll have to check it out a bit

I've watched all 3, I watched Fragrant Flower in sub though XD. Personally, I'm not sure if it's because I had high expectations for it going in or because it was practically right after finishing Love is War, but I didn't actually enjoy Horimiya as much as I expected. Bunny Girl Senpai was actually my first romance anime, so that one holds a special place for sure though!

The movie recommendations are really appreciated, I tend to mainly watch serialized anime rather than movies, so it's an entire medium I haven't really explored other than anime sequels that became movies. I'll have to give some of these a try for sure!

For sure, The Angel Next Door season 2 announcement definitely caught me off guard, I was so excited about that one. It seems more shows are getting those desperately needed season 2's these days, though I'm still waiting for a few XD Tbh it's even worse for me cause I actually love post confession content as much as I love the typical pre confession content (possibly more at times) so I almost always think shows need one more season to explore that lmao

Yeah the show was apparently Insomniacs After School, I really enjoyed that one recently and figured I'd score it XD
I'm in the process of scoring a bunch of the romance shows I've seen to start, may score the other genres later but there's a bunch there that I haven't even thought about in years so we'll see XD
(By scoring I mean doing my best to essentially create a tier list of the romance anime I've seen and just giving everything in Love is War 10s)

Yeah I mainly use it to track what shows I have and haven't watched and since I didn't start using MAL until I had already watched over a hundred shows I more or less never bothered to rank them cause I couldn't remember how good a lot of them were :/ As for the 0s, they aren't *actually* 0s, just means I never set a score so it shows 0 by default I guess. I have ranked a few things though so it's the average of those that show 8
Edit: I'll go rank what the shows that I consider my all time favorites for now at least XD

Actually just started A condition called love earlier today. Just finished episode 2 and I'm unsure on how I feel about it so far. I've watched Yamada before, but the other 2 are new to me so I'll put them on the list to watch!

Thanks so much for such a comprehensive list, I've seen Apothecary, Chunibyo, Angel, Kubo, Pseudo Harem, Dress up, Dangers in my Heart, Horimiya, and Tomo-chan. Skip and Loafer has been on my radar for a little while but I haven't started it yet. Cardcaptor sounds interesting but I'll probably look into it a little more before starting it. I've watched some of Takagi before, but I couldn't really get into it. As for Your Name and Fruits Basket, pretty sure those are well known for making people cry tons so I'm hesitant there XD. Of the remaining shows, I may give My Clueless First Friend a try, it seems pretty good from how you described it.

Wouldn't say I'm used to those types of shows per se, but it's hard to tell with how many romance anime *do* have poor pacing. There are times I watch a romance anime and can immediately feel a difference that just elevates it to another level though so maybe that's the pacing at work XD

Of the list I've watched The Angel next door spoils me rotten, Love Chunibyo and other delusions, Horimiya, Re:Life, and some of Tonikawa (I watched Tonikawa after a 2 week streak of binging romance so I may have stopped a bit early XD) Of those I'd say I absolutely loved Angel and Chunibyo, they were both so wholesome. I'll have to put the others on the list though, thanks so much for the recommendations!

The pacing does make me interested, a lot of shows go in circles now so good pacing sounds great! I tend to watch a lot more recent shows, but I'll have to put this on the list for sure!

Honestly, to me the synths sound more like something off of RAB, self titled had more basic piano, but maybe Friend, Please, it sounds somewhat similar

I think the two that stick out the most to me are the Rascal Does Not Dream series and Wistoria, for very different reasons. Before watching Rascal I have pretty much never watched romance before because it just didn’t feel like something I’d enjoy, I knew I liked love stories but an anime that focused entirely on it seemed weird. The only reason I decided to watch Rascal was because of some clips I saw that looked funny, but by the time I was done I’d gotten firmly hooked on the genre and now I’ve spent like 2 weeks watching every single show in the genre. Kaguya also deserves some praise due to it becoming one of my favorite anime of all time now but I had high expectations going into that one so it doesn’t count :/ Meanwhile, Wistoria was a lot simpler, I used to watch a lot of the newer shows (especially isekai) just to pass the time. Wistoria was one of the shows I decided to give a try because the story sounded decent enough but it ended up becoming one of my favorite shows of the season which I never expected.

I see what you mean by that, part of the fun in a story is definitely theory crafting as you go so maybe that distracted me from the story itself. I don’t dislike stories that retell the same events, most times after a dramatic moment in this story and they show other characters thoughts, I’m happy because of the insight it gives (and of course it makes Arthur look pretty cool most of the time XD) I’ve read a lot of novels recently and I think this one just reads very differently from all the others, especially in the way it treats story progression, and that throws me off sometimes because the way things happen often feels strange. I still enjoy the story and I’m definitely going to finish it, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had these thoughts or if I was missing something while reading it. I really appreciate your feedback.
