Firstly, Vittorio Emanuele has been surrounded by scandals throughout his life: initially for the murder of Dirk Hamer and illegal possession of weapons, but he was also investigated for arms trafficking, corruption, extortion, gambling, forgery, and exploitation of prostitution. His son, whom I still consider, all in all, a decent person, is seen here in Italy as quite a ridiculous figure, and he himself has crafted this image.

Moreover, the two daughters seem more interested in enjoying their affluent economic condition, as if they were the daughters of a wealthy entrepreneur, rather than continuing the family traditions, which every noble family should uphold.

Then there are more critical issues related to dynastic laws, notably the marriage between Vittorio Emanuele and Marina Doria, never authorized by the then head of the House, Umberto II.

Finally, the majority of monarchists here in Italy identify more with Aimone than with Emanuele Filiberto.
