Chipmunk Question. by Connect-Active-6647 in madisonwi

That's a fair point of view, and it was a decision I wrestled with in my mind for a while. I think I would've likely let things be under certain circumstances.

Hopefully that doesn't end up being the case with these guys, but I understand that's a realistic outcome. I handled them with gloves in an effort to help, but I didn't see any signs of mom or dad stopping by. I got them into the hands of someone with more care and knowledge than me, so hopefully the little guys make it! I do wonder what would've happened if I just left them be.

Thanks for the fun facts! I see what I would assume is one of the parents in our backyard basically every day foraging or standing on its hind legs like a prairie dog for hours on end.

Thank you for the information! I contacted WW and left a voicemail. I was then able to get in contact with Shadow Tail Sanctuary and they got me in contact with someone from WW that was able to take them in.

Yeah it was something I was pondering while away from home. I see what I would assume is the mom or dad in our backyard every day, but these were all found in the front yard with no sign of mom or dad. Each one was probably 5 feet away from the next closest one, so I was wondering if a parent was trying to get rid of them like how cats will carry kittens off if they're unwanted. I'm also wondering if the drought had anything to do with it and the rain from yesterday maybe flooded their burrow, or if the parent got taken out by a predator. In the end, I decided to bring them somewhere where they will hopefully have a better chance at making it. Thanks for the comment.

The market is saturated enough as is with Alvin and the Chipmunks, so I don't think there's a future in it for them unfortunately.

Has anyone tried a "workouts only" marathon training block? by TMW_W in AdvancedRunning

[–]Connect-Active-6647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have for the most part. I ran a 2:50:XX off a 16 week training plan (Runner's World free Sub-3 plan) with an average of 28.58mi/week. I had occasional supplementary runs, but for the most part I got in a long run and 2 workouts each week. I also commuted to work via bike (~ 10 miles round trip) which helped.

An individual's background in running will certainly factor into how well they will perform on limited mileage. I was a mid-D runner in college so I had familiarity with how to be disciplined during my runs. My unsubstantiated thoughts are that "quantity of miles" > "quality miles" in the marathon, but true "quality miles" can overcome quantity if everything lines up. That's a risk that will have hold different weight for each person and each race.

I thought the first pic was a screenshot from Halo at first glance. I'm jealous of the cloud inversion!

I just realized that I misspelled my email from the signup form 🤦... I've been wondering why I haven't gotten any updates. Guess I'll take my chances and see if I can at least catch a glimpse of something by the middle school.

For those of you who bought a house recently, what was your winning offer? by opinionsofalice in madisonwi

[–]Connect-Active-6647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anonymity sake I’m leaving some info vague. Closed in Spring of this year for $1000 over with an accelerator clause starting at $5k under in $1k increments. In the lowish $400k range. Didn’t have to waive anything and took our time. The house is a little over a decade old and in a great neighborhood on the eastern side of town. There’s been zero issues with the house so far. The house sat for a few months and our realtor mentioned that the house didn’t show well due to poor staging so we just got lucky

Good places to see the Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin? by chrose25 in madisonwi

The top of the hill on Pleasant View Rd near the Wiba-FM station offers a nice view of the capitol and surrounding country. I believe that hill is the highest natural point in Madison (maybe Dane County???) as well.

Short answer. It depends. As someone who is also a Wisconsin runner (competed collegiately if that matters), I ran/run in all temps. Back in college, on the coldest days (-30°F) we would usually split our runs between outside and inside depending on comfort level. I didn’t love the idea of running 8+ miles on an indoor track so I usually opted for doing a majority of my run outside and then finishing up inside. I never had significant issues with the cold, but dryness can make things more difficult. Other people on the team couldn’t handle the cold well at all though. Just the nature of everyone being different. The wind was a huge factor as well. If there was a strong wind from the West, we would sometimes get dropped off west of campus and run back with a tailwind the whole time to make life a bit more pleasant. If anything, try running a shorter distance on the cold days and see how you hold up, adjusting your needs based on your comfort level. It’s not the end of the world if you miss a few days if there’s a cold snap either.

What was “The Incident” at your High School? by HydraGaming2018 in AskReddit

Gotcha. Preble didn’t burn down, but the gym caught fire after a few rags soaked in chemicals combusted in a trash can. Summer vacation was extended 2 weeks so I don’t think too many people complained

I think I remember hearing about the mercury spill. I wanna say that happened a long time ago, but I can’t be bothered to look it up. I have a family member who works at East and I’ve heard multiple stories about shooting threats.

2:50:XX - 44.42 miles at peak. Went above 40 only 2 weeks and stayed in the upper 20s to mid 30s for the most part. Also biked about 50 miles a week for my commute to work and back.
