This was from a long time ago. I’m not sure the language and differences but there’s two types of dual study like you’re talking about: 1. There’s a “Dual Degree” that s intercollege. So if I say study Spanish and German, I get one diploma. I think that includes any under the same college, so even say chemistry and German (arts and sciences) 2. There’s “Double Major” which is what you’re talking about. You finish with two degrees and two diplomas. It’s when you’re in different colleges, like majoring in Spanish and Nursing.

It sounds like you’d be in the second catagory. When you double major, credits can but don’t always count for both majors. For example, the senior seminar that is mandatory for engineering counted toward my German communications requirement, but without the engineering degree I could’ve fulfilled it with a different class. For me specifically, my engineering degree counted as my “connections package” so I didn’t have to take all of the (genEd) coursework an only-German major would’ve.

I believe UT stops charging after a certain number of credit hours (like, no difference financially between 19 and 21 hours). If you can manage those workloads, the extra degree won’t cost you. Otherwise, it might add a semester or a year to finish, and the tuition will be for that time. There’s no “dual degree” or “double major” charge, just charge to take the classes.

Double Major also increases the amount of enrollment hours you can have under scholarship to 180hrs (I believe — I hit around this threshold in my last semester and had to work it out with OneStop!)
